I had to go and get a tyre today (essential worker - so I needed to get it) I made sure I thanked the lad for working and doing my tyre before I popped in and paid.

Garage was quite well organised, when I drove in I wasn't allowed to exit the car. I had to sit in the car while all communication was done from a safe distance through the window.

Payment was in the office again, only 1 person and the card machine was over 2m away from the operator.

Anyway I had to drop a couple of bits of shopping off to my mum so did that and passed numerous cyclists one in a group of about 10!! I always knew cyclists were selfish but this took my opinion of them to a new low.

Stay home stay safe. Slow/stop the spread it's not difficult. The amazing work of our NHS being undermined by a few morons.

as we pussy foot about the people who think the rules don’t apply to you. As my my daughter is is front line nurse and my work colleague has the virus. For you to say let’s play golf. What an utter idiot. Do us all a favour and shut up.. Your sort of opinion will keep the restrictions going for months.

No need for that.

I'd suggest it was the language used rather than the content that they were referring to.

We all get frustrated at times with people's stupidity.

its not life or death which of course it could be I am only floating out an idea

This is the attitude that has the country where it is, stay safe and stay at home. Golf is unimportant.

Not sure where you are based but just pop along to your local ICU and see if getting a game of golf is really that important right now. Of course you won't be allowed in but let me tell you from someone that is watching the staff at the epicentre (without efficient supplies at times) and hitting a little ball is not important. Don't use your car unless for essential journey's, stay inside and do what you've been asked to do
Homer, all due respect to you and all of your NHS colleagues always, but especially at this time. However, you were fragrantly flouting advice about socially distancing, up until a week or so ago. Which considering where you work is frankly shocking. Similarly, I’ve read from posts you’ve made on here that you have a condition that puts you in the vulnerable category. Yet you appear to be working in the “epicentre” of what is going on at the frontline. I appreciate that what you do may be specialised and you’re probably adding value, but are you following government advice?

Out of interest in what part of the country is your daughter working?

If you follow the whole thread I think many posters disagreed with the OP, and the OP seemed to shift attitude based on the posts.

Best wishes to all working on the frontline and those supporting them.

I get the frustration but no one ever changed someones viewpoint by abusing them. Its a forum, people will post wildly different opinions.

On that note, I was discussing with the better half last night about how sport and hobbies are often described as unimportant or 'only' football etc. Relatively speaking they are but the longer this goes on the more important they will get, as they play a massive part in peoples lives. They maintain physical and mental health, provide focus and direction for many. Some will be less capable of dealing with this deprivation than others, their reactions unpredictable. I see no harm in discussing these things !

Hi. My daughter works in the Liverpool area. She does 12 hour shifts with two changes of clothing so forgive me for being a tad angry at idiotic posts like the one that started this. It’s in the same selfish vein as those who thought they could strip the shelves bare at the start of this crisis and sometime we are too polite in this country with folk that say or do things.

i will apologise for the language I used but not for how I feel about selfish people who think while over 900 people a day are dying in italy and the government say if we can keep death rate below 20000 here we be doing well think it’s ok to ask should we be allowed to play golf. It is a forum but lets discuss should we pay subs or what incred bargains in kit will be available at end of year, but please if you think we should be playing go,f keep the thought to yourself then you cant offend people who are dealing with this issues daily...

I agree, so much selfish behaviour. If there is one positive that may come from this (besides people washing their hands more!) is that more people will recognise the value of public service in general. Not just NHS but Police and Prison staff, social and healthcare professionals from the very bottom up - all levels play their part in things that matter most. But not valued enough and therefore often seen as something to be cut because they are not 'wealth creators'. Anyway, I can feel a rant looming so i'd best shut up :censored::LOL:

I wouldn't bet on it.

I share your thoughts on that. It's only been a week or two and I'm already losing the will to live. I can't even picture how I'll be feeling in a month, or two. And there are countless people in worse positions than me.
Why would anyone think we are two weeks away from being allowed out to play golf.

We are supposedly 2 weeks behind Italy and Spain and both are in dire straits with stricter measures that are in place here.
I don't think we'll be back on the course until July at the very earliest. They'll want to see the number of cases coming right down before they open everything up and risk them soaring up again.

Golf courses will be open long before july, I have heard from a source who has a family member who works in Westminster that this 3 week lockdown will be extended by a further 2 weeks. Apparently we will then see other shops etc opening back up but cinemas, cafes, restaurants, events with large crowds will be off the table for a while after that. I think the courses will be open again (maybe without the clubhouse opening) end of April/beginning of May.

If only people had the same passion as some are expressing for NHS workers for our armed forces who have risked their lives perhaps to a far greater extent and all for the good of our country and its interests.

Utter twaddle (imo of course!)!

This whole process is an iterative one to get folk used to the 'lockdown' that is essential to combat the spread of the virus! It will only end when when an effective 'cure' for the virus has been developed and is freely available - which is likely to be around 12-18 months!!

Until then, it is essential that the general public are convinced of the need to delay 'pandemia' and prevent the swamping of already barely coping medical facilities!

And while the news media seem focussed on the 'number of deaths' statistics, it seems, currently, that these are only slightly above those for uninoculated Flu victims. To put it into perspective, it seems, to me that, while there have been quite a few well publicised cases of infections from celebrities, sportsmen and the like, there have been very few deaths from that same 'sample'! I fear for Prince Charles (and Camilla and, more-so, for Queen and DofE) though who are in the seriously 'at-risk' group!.

And of course I think your opinion is utter twaddle if you foresee this lockdown as it stands lasting 12-18 months. The economy would be in dire straights and things would be as bad as they were in the 1930's during the depression if this were to happen. The government couldn't afford to allow this to happen and I think they are trying to get a controlled infection rate and then at some point over the next month or so hope this rate of infection stabilizes at which point they will declare its under control which of course it wont be it just wont be getting any worse

I can also see the fallout of this virus leading to major political change in parts of Europe as countries struggle to return back to normal and to address poverty which this will bring about. Interesting times ahead

I get the outrage from various posters at the mere suggestion of playing golf atm.
But, I still think that with the correct precautions in place, strict marshalling of the course, all tee times booked, restricted to 2 balls, & instant ban from the course in the future for any infringement of the precautions, golf could have stayed open.

We are only 1x week into the Government restrictions & from what I read most people are broadly supportive.
It will be interesting to see if opinions start to shift after 1 month / 2 months / 3 months & maybe a few clubs start to go bust, as a lot of clubs are sailing very close to the wind financially & I suspect that they won't withstand a prolonged shutdown.
