clicking wedges

We all know the top pro's do not use the same gear we amateurs use. Their wedges are something special though surely? How do they get that loud click when they contact the ball? I hit a decent ball and on Sunday I used a Pro V1, something I rarely do, I usually play a Z-Star. I got the odd bit of spin albeit on rock hard unyielding greens. I never made that sound once. Are their wedges hand made Japanese forgings or something similar?

If you go and watch live pro golf there is no click when a wedge is hit, all you are hearing is the sound picked up by microphones and amplified.
It's like the lovely swish sound you hear on the tees when they take practice swings on tv, not really audible to the ear but when amplified sounds cool.

No it's not, their wedges ain't made any different other than various sole grinds

No. That's all it is!

But they do hit it phenomenally humungously better than us! And unless you've also got 'conforming' grooves, they are actually at a disadvantage to handicap golfers - who can have 'super zippy' grooves until 2024!

And putting is even more so. If you look at Els's putt that won The Open, you'll notice the line going end over end. Our roll is light years away from that!

Speak for yourself Foxholer, I can get the ball rolling end over end when putting. Might not be rolling in the right direction but I can put a good roll on it.

Anyway, not all good putts go in and not all bad putts miss. If it goes in the hole then what does it really matter.

the pros use pinnicles thats what makes the clicking sound, true story

I have to say that when Fragger and me went to the PGA last year we both commented on the hideous noise coming from those Pros playing Nike equipment. Irons and wedges just sounded awful compared to other brands. A very loud click. Could have been the ball but whatever it was it wasn't nice.

Spent quite a while watching at the practice round at Gleneagles recently. These guys hit the ball so cleanly and it's almost a perfect strike compared to us mortals.

watched them teeing off at the 10th and that same sound was there on virtually every shot I saw. A perfect strike.

There has to be more to it than that, yes I acknowledge the fact that they hit it perfectly most of the time but it has to be the materials used in the manufacture. I do not buy that they use off the shelf heads like the ones on the shelf in AG and DG. I'm sure they use ultra top quality Japanese forgings and this must contribute to the sound made on impact and the spin imparted.

Same heads with different sole grinds... sorry buddy, thats my understanding.

I was playing the the garden at my wife's parents house at the weekend, the grass/moss is so so spongy ther that as you walk it leaves a foot print. The good chips my brother and I made clicked off the face. I dont know if the surface has anything to do with it.

Of course they use the same heads, however they will have the most specific set up possible, even more than a custom fit can do for us.

Fact is hours of ball bashing and hours of work on their game is the difference.

i think its the mics. watched 3 days at the Scottish Open and not one shot made the sound it does on TV.

Since changing my wedge I have been getting the clicking sound, does sound good, still cant guarntee where the ball will go though
