I was on the range 2day practising really enjoying myself and hitting the ball quite nicely with my 7 iron when my phone went off,it was my boss,i did not answer it,so he sent a text it said "Are you at work yet" i should explain im self employed and can work wen i want, however still have 2 answer 2 a boss, bummer, for the next 5 minutes i cud not hit a bloody ball properly until my head had cleared of negative thinking,it goes 2 show how much you need a clear head to concentrate and have no distractions,do you agree, and if so what do you do to keep a clear head and concentrate.

I too went to the range today and have to say many thanks to those who commented on the swing I posted. I tried to focus on making a shorter swing (as someone suggested) whilst following he advice from the teaching pro I saw on Friday about making sure I turn and not sway (keeping the weight on the inside of the right foot). Although I'm pretty sure my spine angle is still straigtening on the way down the whole thing felt much more controlled and I was hitting the ball pleasingly well.

I did try to do some work on my tempo as the swing is still muh faster than my normal teaching pro would like but there started to become too many thing to think about and so I went off the boil. Like the OP a clear understanding of what you re doing is essential. Once I went back to letting the timing take care of itself and focussed on turn and weight I finished off the session very strongly.

Thanks once again for all the comments both positive and negative. They've all helped to a degree and while I am beginning to accept my swing will never be textbook I'm still determined to use what I've got to get to single figures next year

The answer to the above......DONT TAKE THE PHONE IN WITH YOU. :D

Homer: I seriously, seriously, think you analyse your swing far too much !!!!!!

Christ, with all those swing thoughts, im surprised you could connect at all !!

I hit a few the other day and was feeling stressed and out of sorts and bloomin cold as well. I wish I hadn't bothered, if I'm not in any zone at all, it's a waste of time.

I like to find a quiet bay and warm up, then drills with my brain in gear. It normally happens no trouble.
Maybe I shouldn't have hit the fire hydrant outside my house that morning..... :D

I've been telling him that (in a roundabout sort of way) for ages!!
Just turn up 5 minutes before your due to tee off, put a ball down and smack it up the arse.
Where it goes, nobody knows but play with what you've got on the day is my motto
;)

I had a similar experience earlier in the year...

I'd received an e-mail from my then manager containing my appraisal. I was supposed to read it, note down my responses and then have the 1-2-1 to discuss it. Unfortunatly the e-mail came in just as I was leaving for the day (Friday afternoon - no-one wants to hang around) so, later on that evening I decided to log on remotely and read the aforementioned appraisal. I wish now that I hadn't bothered!!! It was complete rubbish and infuriated me to the point that I couldn't sleep that night. I was teeing off early the next day and the anger was still with me as I teed off. I played like an absolute tool which further added to my anger.

So yes, I agree, a clear head and no distractions is required for golf.

I was on the range the other day when some idiot's phone went off. Unfortunately he answered it. Several duff shots later I managed to get back in the groove.
