hoping that writing it down is theraputic !

stableford comp this morning, strong winds, three heavy showers.

35 points standing on 16th tee and finished blob/blob/double bogey for 36.

even the blobs were hard luck stories, flirted with OB with drive on 16th, playing partner says "what a lucky bounce, it's fine", get to ball and 5 inches OB, next group walking to the tee so just walked on. howling wind on 17, had no idea what to hit, ended up flushing a hybrid straight over the flag but way too big, obligatory 3 putt followed with another on 18.

everyone was coming in saying it was as tough as our place gets, delighted with how I played for 80% of round but can't stop thinking about what I left out there.

beauty of the game I suppose.

But 36pts in those conditions is excellent. If you'd have come in 40pts there' have been dark mutterings.

Very well played.

I remember standing on the 16th with 34 points. I finished with 34...

I learnt a valuable lesson that day, have a game plan! I think this is around the time I started thinking about what eventually became my 3 goals method.

Well played mate. Did something very similar recently and left the field annoyed...

Like you say take the positives and think its far better than playing all of the holes like the last couple ;-)

It happened on Wednesday. In my first vets comp, I shot 21 points going out (back 9) and then as we turned the heavens opened and the rain was relentless, I got what was a good 16 points given the conditions but, had I gone out an hour earlier in the early groups I reckon I would have done enough for a handicap cut.

Should appeal for a WCSR.

Never forget playing at Ladybank one day on a weeks trip up with some mates.
My brother in law was a couple of groups in front of me, and as he walked down the 13th he looked across at me and had his thumbs up with a big smile on his face.
I wandered across to ask him how he was doing.
"35 points so far" he replied. He really was excited!!
I was really chuffed for him. He played off 24 and really struggled most of the time, usually bringing up the rear. He had been having a terrible week and was due a good round.
When we got back to the clubhouse, he was at the bar and I went to see how he ended up, expecting him to have scored 40 plus.
"35 points" came the reply. He blobbed the last 6 holes......:mad:

great story- you should save that for weddings:rolleyes:

:blah:

Well done and a good score in difficult conditions.

I wonder if you had started, blob, blob, double bogey would you still feel disappointed ?

A different way of looking at things is to think that there are no first and last holes on a golf course in a competition, just holes.

I'd take the positives and enjoy how well you played up to the final few holes. Maybe learn how to deal with the pressure of being in contention, but you need to be there to know how it feels and not try and "protect" the score and just swing as freely as you did for the first 15
