Whats the view on cigars on the forum. Was out at a friends place and he brought out a box of Romeo y Julieta cuban cigars..
Took me back to the days in New York, when you could go for a 'Bourbon And Cigars' at the end of a crazy week of 60+ hours. It is always interesting that non-smokers make exception for a good cigar..

ps: not suggesting anyone should smoke..

Not been a smoker, but once tried king Edwards in me early Twentys. Woke up one morning and thought I had swallowed a length of barbed wire, after smoking an old stogie the night before and never touched one since.
Brought back some Guantanamera,Monte Cristo, Romeo and Juliets and Cohibas from Cuba with the intentions of flogging them over here. I could not give them away.
A box of Cohibas was smoked for freebies at me daughters wedding last year. The guests that had them thought it was Christmas. One even asked if he could take one home. no probs. I still have the box wi me secret golf cash stash in that Missis T don't know about.
Just remembered I once tried a cigar where the plastic tip was soaked in ?rum. That was gorgeous.

I've never really understood the Cigar 'Thing' and how a non regular smoker can smoke them on special occasions etc and enjoy them.

If they were 50p each would wealthy people still smoke them..

Wen a' were a young lad I used to caddy for a very rich Glasgow industrialist.
He took a holiday house for a fortnight and would play twice a day with his son and SIL.

They all arrived on the first tee smoking a large, recently lit, Havana.
When we got to the 18th tee the cigar box came out and they would light up again.

Even as a wet behind the ear lad I could see that the cigar was purely meant as an 'I'm considerably richer than you' gesture.

I’ve got more into it in the last year or so treating myself to a Romeo y Julieta, Partagas or Trinidad every few weeks. More as part of social evenings than anything else

Coupe of mates are more into it and you start to feel guilty when it’s the same guys offering them round and thought I better take my turn as ‘host’ so I try to keep half a dozen

Don’t do the American ‘cigars at golf’ thing though

My dear old dad used too love an occasional cigar with a bottle of red wine, tried it a couple of times and never got into it.
Strangely I do like the smell of a lite pipe, never have & never will try it, pipe smoking seems to be a bit of a dying art these days.

now that I think of it, havent come across a pipe smoker in about 25 years.. Even the new sherlock does not have a pipe - strange.

Chap at our club smokes a pipe.....a big curly one that never seems to leave it's mouth even when it's not lit (including his golf swing). As for cigars, I was a smoker for quite a while but never really got the cigar thing, though did go for the odd Hamlet when trying to give up once......no wonder I went back to fags! The big fancy ones are just too overpowering and last about 4 days.
