Choosing the right option off the tee. Then topping a 6 iron 50 yards.

Theeeeee other annoying one. Pushing a 3ft putt past the hole by 3ft then you reach over and back putt it centre holing it everytime. What's that all about?

Missing a green from 50 / 70 yards after piping a drive!!!

Hitting clubs with more more loft is supposed to be easier, right? :) :)

Did it 4 times yesterday! 3 times with a hybrid and once with a 5 iron. Also hit a hybrid 2nd shot for position on a par 5, that ended up in a pond. Finished the round 5 over par... 13 pars and 5 bogies, all of which were horrible chunks.

And the only chance of a birdie/eagle yesterday was when I hit a par 15 in two, about 15ft from the flag. Really fancied the eagle but totally misread the line, expecting it to break right only to see it go left... and you'd think I'd hit it with a 3 iron, 3ft past.

While there are other things just as frustrating as topping your 'safe option' off the tee, I think there aren't many shots that can have a simlilarly devastating effect on your mind.

If you slice your driver OOB you still can take 3W/iron on the next tee if you think this might happen again. But what should you turn to after you totally mishit an iron?

A 3-putt after a good approach may bring you close to snapping your putter, but standing on the tee without the faintest idea how you should get your ball in play can have a much worse effect on your score.

Being at the back of the green in two and putting to a front pin. Racing it past the pin and off the green, down the embankment about 15 yards away will put grey hairs on you.

Green in two. Mark me down for a seven. :o. handed birchy a hole yesterday doing that.

I actually used the Game Golf app last week to assess where to play a safe tee shot on a hole I always bogey. You can drag the cursor around the hole and it'll give you yardages to points you pick and length to the hole from that point. I took a 5 iron instead of a driver, and shot my second shot below the hole and par'd it. Always hit it right with the driver and then lob it to the green onto a downhill run.

Finding the right line for a putt then leaving it an inch short is worse I reckon.

Nah gimmie an inch short over a foot past any day

On every other round that inch short putt will drop due to any number of reasons from length of grass to wind, temperature or humidity but the foot past will probably still be 11 inch past on its wrong line ;)

I played with a 16 h/c yesterday in a comp and he turned on 23 points then topped loads of shots scoring 12 on the back 9. He was unhappy!
Funny you should say that but 2 weeks ago (in one of our majors), one of our group (playing off 17), reached the turn with 23 points. He was told not to worry if he collapsed on the back 9 as he was sure to win the best front 9. 2 hours and 15 points later that is all he won.
This week he reached the turn with 22 points and received similar comments. He could only muster 12 points coming home though and we have yet to see if he won the front 9 prize.
