Hi am currently using my pitching wedge as my chipping club. I try to land about 40% of the way to the hole and run the other 60%. Is there a set distance each club will run when it bounces E.g 8 Iron, chip 5 yards, run 10 yards, any info will be appreciated thanks.

As a rule of thumb, on a flat green.

7 iron 1/3 in the air 2/3 run
9 iron 1/2 in the air 1/2 run
Sand Wedge 2/3 in the air 1/3 run

This is just a rough idea as slope, firmness and speed of green can effect these. Use these as a starting point and adjust to suit the shot you are going to play.

I try to get the ball on the ground as quickly as possible when playing a chip and run. I look at the shot and then choose a club, not the other way round.

As JustOne, I look at the shot, decide where I want to land the ball (usually asap but not on a slope if I have a choice) then imagine the ball flight and what club would produce it.

Everyone might be different depending on stance, face angle, ball position etc. For example, SharkAttacks 50/50 club is his 9 iron, but mine is my gap wedge.

Just experiment around your chipping green (or on the course late one evening) and see what works.

My PW is my 50/50 club.

Why then, do I keep using a GW and complaining about the ball not rolling out? and it's got spin-milled-whatsamuflips?

I play most of my golf along the ground t.b.h.
Off the tee it's called a "thin", around the greens it's called "links style"

The ideal chip and run should land on the putting surface and run out. A lot wil depend where the flag is as to which club you use. Of course if the ground in front of the green is flat there is nothing to stop you landing it there but there is always an element of risk with the first bounce and release.

I guess the simple answer is get to your putting green or practice area and hit some balls with different shots. I use a target like this (the smaller one) http://www.perfectmygolf.co.uk/acatalog/Target_Circles.html and land as many balls in it as I can with different clubs. If you can hit the landing spot regularly not only will you develop a feel for each club but you can measure how far it runs
