We cant complain that we have too many poor quality jobs in the UK then, that's what you get if you prefer to buy cheap Chineese products.And even more go to US ones!
Somewhere around 100k Chinese students in UK; Somewhere around 360K at US ones (2017/18 figures)!
I certainly agree that 'reliance' on cheap Chinese products is bad, but 'price' is pretty much the primary consideration of UK's economic environment - has always been and, I believe, always will be.

The Germans have production plants all over the World now. Been seeing the made in China on many things, especially microwaves.Not just UK brands...
Heard on radio, earlier in the week, someone advising their top of the range German NEFF oven turning up emblazoned "Made in China"...

Same goes for any of the 'major worldwide' businesses/manufacturers... They are trading on their, often historical, made in the 'home' market image of 'quality' workmanship but now using modern manufacturing methods located in the cheapest regions [for labour]… A bit of a con and probably not sustainable...
Ah! The old school Burberry Mac, jumpers for goalposts ?Wasn’t the so called ‘British Burberry’ almost entirely made in China a few years ago... now I think they are back in Wales or somewhere
