Cheesed Off

Played 18 on Saturday, hosed down the entire round, shot 76.

Played on Sunday, started in bright sunshine, but 6 holes in, hosed down again. Walked off on 13. Fed up with rain.

Golf also deserted me on Sunday. Barn door and banjo spring to mind.

Come on summer, get a wriggle on.

Cheesed off here looking at this mornings weather and I have to go to work in 30 mins.

Yesterday after going 2 down after two in the winter league greensomes we were one up starting 6 but my partner and one of theirs had not dressed for rain (went on last nights forcast) and were soaked through. It let up as we walked off then promplty threw it down again as we got in the bar.

Very annoying as we were looking good to win the match as the first two holes went down to my partners duffed chip and those guys knocking it to about 2 feet with a duffed shot on the 2nd hole par 3.

Also very annoyed as had to come off after 13 on Saturday due to rain and the fact we had to wait for 5 mins for every shot.

I used to feel the same as you Homer, no point playing in pishing rain and not being able to grip the club - then I discovered Glenmuir MacWet golf gloves...

Now when the rain starts getting heavy and looks like setting in, I pull on the gloves, drag them along my wet golf back, make sure the grips are a bit wet, and then just play my normal game.

Yes I look a bit of a tool wearing two black gloves, but at least I've got full grip of the club.

I had a FJ wet glove on but it was the other hand that slipped and the feet weren't too stable. There was the start of casual water building on the tee and with the back nine being lower lying I really couldn't see the point

"Sports pshychologist sessions are on the agenda as part of my blog and held over from last year when the guy had to cancel and wasn't able to reschedule. I'm a fan of Rotella so I'm hoping he'll give me some powerful imagery to take out with me onto the course."

Homer you have problems. Your meant to enjoy the game, how the hell can you enjoy the game in your frame of mind???

I'm with dodger, i really admire your persistence homer.

I play golf to get away from the usual stresses of work/kids/wife (lets hope she doesnt see this eh!) not to present me with a whole other set of issues to work through.

I enjoy playing, thats it. If it got me down/frustrated the way it seems to do with you (at least comes across in ur posts) i'd jack it in and never look back!

Hope u find something that works for you, really do.

Have to agree, I go out for 4 hours of relaxation and banter, if I improve then that is great but the enjoyment is everything. If I was in such turmoil with my swing, so stressed about every aspect of my game and performance and was a mid handicapper considering using a sports psychologist I would hang up my clubs. I played rugby for 28 years but when it stopped being enjoyable I quit and moved on to something else. If golf becomes more of a stress than an enjoyment then that would be it for me.

Have to admire your persistance.

I got offered two sessions. Read the Rotella books so thought why not. Never tried it and whats to lose. I don't want to be the new anybody as I'm quite happy being me. Contrary to popular belief I love my golf good bad or indifferent but I love the journey in trying to get better. If the first session doesn't work or I think it's claptrap I'm under no obligation to have the second one. Rest assured I'll tell it how I think it is as I always do (rightly or wrongly). I'm not going to get into a pyramid with my crystals before the monthly medal or sit in a trance like state visualising every shot the night before.

Funny how Oosterhuizen had a red dot on his glove and it was a wonderful piece of imagery and yet 30 minutes with someone who can (may) be able to help me think more clearly and be more relaxed especially when it goes wrong is deemed to be David Icke like in its eccentricity and futility

I had the same problem with one hand slipping so I also bought a FJ wet glove for a LH golfer and wear 2.

Don't even worry about keeping stuff dry, they just work. Can be a bit cold for the first couple of holes though.
