Cheapskates.

Way back in the early 1980s a friend whos brother was Captain of a local club played with his brother at another more prestigious club. The wager was "A Ball in Paper" my mate took this as being a brand new ball, as at that time they still did come in a paper wrapping. After duly holing the winning putt on the 18th my mate and his brother were handed " A Ball in Paper" by btheir opponents, it was a brand new ball wrapped in a twenty pound note.

And you could buy a car with £20 at the time....

Is it wrong to say I don't really like betting when I play golf, but do when I have to.

Only really betting I do is with one 3 ball that I play with in Essex and that is £5 front, £5 back and £5 overall. And the winners normally buy the drinks.

£3 in the pot for the Saturday roll up, winner takes all, unless there is a tie. One tie, all tie and we invest the kitty in lottery tickets. Sunday is much more ruthless, winner takes all, including count back if necessary. The loser is the bar bitch at the beck and call of the winner and has to fetch the drinks the winner buys from their gains and has to wear a large rosette (from one of our dog breeders, called funnily enough "best bitch") It's something to be avoided and funny how the threat of the fate focuses the mind over the last few holes. Only been last once. Never again.

Normal Saturday is £5...£1 front, £1 back and £1 overall, with 50p nearest the pin on our par 3s. If a 4ball, the an obligatory extra of pairs match as well with £1 front, £1 back and £1 overall....

Just a standard Saturday spend really!

Fivers in. 50p bits (birdie/closest to the pin on a par 3 and 2 putt/on a par 4 in 1 and 2putt/on a par 5 in 2 and 2putt/chip ins/sand saves/putt from off the green)

In our foursome we play Dollar Skins. Everyone throws in a $1 per hole. So each hole is worth $4, carry over if no one wins a hole. On the 18th if it is carried over no-one wins the carry over, we just drop it. Extra $1 per player for a birdie that wins the hole. Winner buys after round drinks. All played from scratch 8-12 handicappers off tee of choice. Middle for me and one other, back for two others.

Great fun and of course in Arizona, we are home of the Original Skins Game back in 1983!

In Matchplay $10 for the match. Double or nothing if the match is decided before the 18th.
