I live about 20 miles away and play it from time to time. It's best played in the late spring/early autumn as its very picturesque than. Yes, there are lots of buckers but most dont come into play and are just there for effect. I, personally, prefer to play it off the blues which is the furthest back tees that they will allow. It's pretty well always in good condition, except when very wet and if the membership was more resonable I may have considered joining. If you do play it I suggest buying the strokesaver as there are tips written by Nick Faldo on how to play every hole.
The 17th is the island water hole, modelled on the TPC Sawgrass (I Think) its always nice to hit the green on that one andI actually like all the holes there. The greens run true and whilst big, if you get the line and pace they do generally drop.
The food is good, but everything is dearer than your own club, but, as a day out I really like the place
Also consider the London Club - it hosted a couple of Europen Tour events recently and they hold Golf Live there
