Think the clue is in the word regularly. As the end of that paragraph states I play in lots of club matches and eat in these, paying a match fee, so arguably pay more for the same meal as I would if I bought it myself.

I do eat, usually lunch if I play midweek, but the point being these guys rarely if ever set foot in the 19th and do not eat EVER. I may not spend big bucks but every little helps surely
You seem to think that you are a better person because you spend money in the club house. It's not a charity,it's a business.

Just wondering if anyone knows their clubs view on their own ‘car park golfers’ and if so is it a view they hold privately or have shared with the membership as a whole?

I think we can all guess that the official line would be that they’d encourage everyone to use the facilities as often as possible, good of the club, benefits for all blah blah .... but that’s not their view on those that don’t

Do clubs believe ‘car park golfers’ are a negative aspect and share the view of some posters or do they accept it as a necessary behavior for some and actually plan for this player profile when drawing up the business model for their clubhouse?

As coincidence would have it, i was discussing these two threads with el capitan yesterday, and himself (like me, till these threads) had never heard the term before.
His thoughts on the matter, were that although it would be nice if members spent more over the bar, there were certainly no negative feelings, that he was aware of, towards members who chose not to use the facilities. As he said, times are hard and as a club he was greatfull that our membership has remained stable over the last five years.
From that i infer that our business model is based mainly around our annual subs, with only a small injection needed from the social side to keep things ticking over. Saying that, as a club we also have regular functions,(members and private) a snooker team, and the lions and rotary hold their meetings here, so there is plenty going on.

Where have I implied or stated I'm a better person. Take your personal sleights away and stick to the truth. I spend money but like any lifestyle choice is done so on my own volition and not some skewed belief I am helping the club to a brighter new dawn

I swing both ways (thats not what I meant) :o

Saturdays / Sundays & comps / medals etc always in the locker room and in the bar afterwards to enter score / have a bar meal and drink with the lads

Evening bounce game or quick putting or range practice then its the carpark to save time

Cant see a problem either way TBH.

It is amazing how few forumers seem to change in the changing rooms. I always do, check out the forthcoming competitions, have a chat with other members, all part of being a member to me. Might even slip upstairs for a sneaky drink or bacon roll. The changing rooms are also directly on route to the first tee, so don't even have to take a long detour that may knacker me for the five mile walk ahead.:mmm:

I pay for all the facilities so I am going to make full use of them.

You have to move with the times buddy - rather old fashioned view of being a member ;)

I almost always change my shoes in the car park if I'm playing at my home club and, if I'm playing with others, will usually go in for a drink afterwards.

If I'm playing away (oo-er), I always change in the visitors' changing rooms and always go in for a drink and something to eat.

When I'm playing away, I'm usually making a day of it and so there's no imperative to get home quickly. When I'm at home, my wife and daughter are literally 2 minutes down the road and I'm fitting golf in around my family, so I don't hang around for so long.

As for the 'rule' itself, it seems fairly ridiculous to me but it's hardly the end of the world, is it?

Just the impression I get. People changing shoes in a car park winds you up,why???? Don't let it bother you. If you want to have lunch in the club house then go for it. Just remember golf is a hobby & most of us have a life out side of it

I think if you've paid your subs, you are entitled to use/not use the bar as you see fit. You are not obliged to and you shouldn't be judged for not doing so, that is ridiculous.

As it happens, I always go in to the bar afterwards, I like a drink and to talk tosh about the round. However I respect people's free will not to do so. Some people have lives outside of golf.

Lives outside golf>???? really who??? what is wrong with these people!!! The shame of it.... I would argue their commitment is lacking some what!! :)
Change you feet wherever - why does it matter?... I change in the car park as most of the club does because its easy and more convenient... I understand some clubs might not want that and that is fine by me too if its such an issue to them... I drink, eat and spend far to much in the bar but then thats part of my social life and where my mates are so it works for me. I might go and get changed in the locker room, have a shower, sauna and even a blow dry if the reason arose!! :ooo: I understand people might not want to do that and thats fine too. Pay your subs and do what you will. :) I dont really get why anyone would have an issue and get angry either way....but then I got angry when some muppet didnt ring the bell on 17 last night!!

I've no problem with both options, normally if playing during the day I'll go to locker room, if a few holes or practice area in the evening then I'll have street shoes on from house or change in car park.

Car park shoe changer here. Don't have a locker in the changing room so why bother changing my shoes in there?
I do use the clubhouse after a round for score entering and post round drink but simply change shoes whilst putting my gear away..

There were quite a large number of shoe clappers at our club and I have to say that during the wetter weather, the car park did become reminiscent of the Somme.
Since the club invested in a new compressed air shoe and trolley cleaner the car park is much more free of mulch.

I change my shoes on the car park evry time I play.

Pull up on car park. Get bag out of boot. Change shoes. Off to the practice area.

When I've had my round:

Blow grass/mud shoes off with compressor (... At designated point). Walk to car. Put clubs in boot. Change shoes. Drive home.

To be honest, I see no reason to change what I do.

Ditto, with the exception in that I nip in for a quick pint/coffee in the clubhouse. Our club has no secure locker room so no other option but to change in car park

World of difference between "dislike" which would suggest a particular hatred and winding me up which they do. Semantics aside though it isn't the changing the shoes per se that is the REAL issue. It has a lot to do with them never using the clubhouse at all and therefore never contributing towards a club they already pay a huge fee to join. Surely it is simple economics that the more people using the 19th the more cash a club has and the less the fees need to go up year on year.

Some people have a life outside of golf. They don't eat, breathe, dream, fart golf 24 hours a day. When they go home they talk to their wives/partners/family rather than lock themselves away in a separate room either spending hours upon hours writing about golf either on a forum or give a blow by blow account of every shot played on every hole on every round. Jesus H Christ, how boring would that sort of life be?????
I mean people like that have no reason to go home. They would spend every waking hour they had at the golf course whether practising, having lessons or hanging around the pro shop or other golf establishments trying out every single new club that comes onto the market. Hell, they'd even spend time in the bar..
Thank God there aren't too many of that type of person around.

For what it is worth, I absolutely think that everyone should have a minimum spend. If a card system for bar payments is in place then I think that £200 should be put on this by every member at the start of the calendar year and this should form part of their annual subs.
This encourages the social side of the club and ensures that expenditure to run and maintain the catering and bar is adequately covered.

Perfectly sensible....if you are on £80k a year and can afford to pay your annual subs in one foul swoop.
For the majority earning a lot, lot less and struggling to pay their £50.00 a month via direct debit and continually having to justify their membership to a long suffering spouse, I think this would be the final nail in the membership coffin.
Viva la municipal golf!!!!!

Smiffy, you have just described 99% of the members of this forum.
