Car park - locker room - car park - course. Seems to be double handling going on, and that to me is altogether pointless.

I don't have a locker, the locker room is between the car park and the 1st tee. Not a problem.

Think the clue is in the word regularly. As the end of that paragraph states I play in lots of club matches and eat in these, paying a match fee, so arguably pay more for the same meal as I would if I bought it myself.

I do eat, usually lunch if I play midweek, but the point being these guys rarely if ever set foot in the 19th and do not eat EVER. I may not spend big bucks but every little helps surely

I think if you've paid your subs, you are entitled to use/not use the bar as you see fit. You are not obliged to and you shouldn't be judged for not doing so, that is ridiculous.

As it happens, I always go in to the bar afterwards, I like a drink and to talk tosh about the round. However I respect people's free will not to do so. Some people have lives outside of golf.

99% of the time, either at my club or others, I'll always have a drink and/or food but can completely understand those who can't or choose not to for whatever reason.

It is amazing how few forumers seem to change in the changing rooms. I always do, check out the forthcoming competitions, have a chat with other members, all part of being a member to me. Might even slip upstairs for a sneaky drink or bacon roll. The changing rooms are also directly on route to the first tee, so don't even have to take a long detour that may knacker me for the five mile walk ahead.:mmm:

I pay for all the facilities so I am going to make full use of them.

I play club comps weekend, Vets match or comp in week and "roll up" once maybe twice a week.
Vets matches are jacket and tie afterward for a meal.
All others are, at very least, a drink in Spikes bar, or shower and change and a drink in clubhouse.
Im in my third year and cannot recall a game where I've just driven home.

It's against club rules to change shoes or apparel in the car park.
Fine by me. I was told before I joined.
If I know we're using Spikes bar I drive there and back in golf shoes, otherwise I take a change of gear.

I didn't bring this topic up. Fish picked up on a tweet to someone I talk to regularly and posted the poll. Not prepared to rake over old coals and lets face it you don't have to take any interest in it if you think its too much trouble

Taken very much in the tone intended and in fact a very good point. When we adopt next year I'm not entirely sure what the effect ill be apart from not practicing as often and who knows that may even make a beneficial difference. I would like to think that the wife may give me the freedom to enjoy a drink after around in return for late night feeds or other chores. Until we get there I don't know if I'll be a car parker or not but as I did say, if those that play at silly o'clock and are car park golfers do so to get their fix and meet family commitments then better that and they pay their fees per annum. I can't answer it at the moment

Thanks for reining me in, I was forgetting myself. Just questioning the motivation, that's all.

Infact, with bar tabs (ours is £70) you could argue that car park golfers are the perfect members. £70 nett profit, without any extra overheads, such as wear & tear on the carpet!!

Just wondering if anyone knows their clubs view on their own ‘car park golfers’ and if so is it a view they hold privately or have shared with the membership as a whole?

I think we can all guess that the official line would be that they’d encourage everyone to use the facilities as often as possible, good of the club, benefits for all blah blah .... but that’s not their view on those that don’t

Do clubs believe ‘car park golfers’ are a negative aspect and share the view of some posters or do they accept it as a necessary behavior for some and actually plan for this player profile when drawing up the business model for their clubhouse?

Come on, blog on those, we all know you think they are a bygone relic from a past age, clung on to by blazer wearing out of date golf administrators who do not realise that their perception of what is smart is completely at odds with modern society. And all they do is reinforce the image of golf as being elitist, whilst at the same time acting as a barrier to participation. Come on Homey, tell it like it is.
