I know this has probably been asked before, but without any prior experience and very little room to do so (I would have to do it in my kitchen, which is basically a small alcove off the living room)...How easy is it to change my own grips, and what do I need?

Reason I ask is that I can buy a set of Mizuno M-21 grips off eBay to re-grip my MP-57s. My dilemma is that I don't need to re-grip them all, I only need about 4 or 5 re-gripped as others have hardly been used, if at all (the 3 and 4 iron, for instance). So going to a pro shop and getting them to re-grip with the standard golf pride two-piece (which would be my grip of choice) would be fine, but I would have mis-matched grips. Not a huge deal, but it would be nice to have the same "feel" from every grip through my irons.

Or should I stop being such a knob and just pay to get the ones changed that need to be changed?

Haven't done it myself but looks piss easy.

White spirit, sharp knife, tape and an old rag.

Gamola Golf has a guide on their website.

I change my own grips it's really easy, as others have said all you need is some double sided tape, some white spirit and a knife. I have a vice in my garage which does make it easier to out them on.

its real easy (depends on how straight you want the grip, pro i worked for was really really strict and made sure it was perfectly straight)

i still do all my own

did my 1 iron and putter last night (pulled my old grips as they were fine just wanted my prefered ones)

plenty of tutoruials on youtbe aswell

but yeah as Andy says double sided grip tape, knife, white spirit, rag
rubber vice grip if u really want

unless you do the air method (im old skool tho)

just remember to cut away from yourself when slicing the grip off or it could be your finger

oh and if you do a graphite shaft use a hook blade or the shaft will be screwed

To be honest,i could nt be arsed with all the hassle, take the clubs that need doing to your pro and let him do it properly..

Yep. This is precisely my thinking! But I don't know if they would be willing to order in the Mizzy ones and how much they'd cost if they did.

I wonder if I take the grips to him whether they'd fit them for a price.

I'd really rather not do it myself. Especially since I don't have a vice I can use. Most tutorials I've seen have used one.

Whilst a vice can make things easier to get the old grip off, I find that generally I don't bother puting them in the vice at all. Old grip off, clean all the old tape off, put tape (& any additional layers) on, lubricate with white spirit, part fill new grip covering butt end with finger, shake grip to spread white spirit inside, dribble grip spirit over tape and slide on grip. Take time to align and leave to dry. Cut an old milk plastic carton lengthways to catch dribbled spirit below club shaft for reuse.

Easy does it.

Only an hours work really. (assuming there's not 4 layers of tape to remove)

If you took the grips to him hie should do them for probably about £2 per club.

But there is no need to do that. Do them at home. It is actually quite good fun and really easy to do, will take about 3-5mins per grip but as said above all you need is a stanley knife, tape, new grips and some white spirit and an old rag.

guides are online but all i do is:

1. cut down the old grips and peel off
2. remove the old tape (i prefer mine a bit thicker so often just leave the old tape there)
3. place a strip of new tape around the shaft leaving about 1/2 an inch excess at the top.
4. place a tee peg in the hole in the top of the grip and pour some white spirit into the grip. put your thumb over the other end, shake and pour the excess back into the bottle.
5. dip the taped end of the shaft into the bottle
6. slide the grip onto the shaft, pull out the tee peg and align
7. leave to dry

will be ready to play in a few hours.

Have fun!

I have regripped myself in the past, but generally prefer to let others do it. Buy your own grips, and ask the pro to fit them. Much easier and less messy. Less chance of injuring yourself too.

Normally if you supply your own grips its cheaper because your pro will only charge you to fit them...

*strokes beard*. An email to the local pro methinks.

stroke his beard, you WILL get them cheaper :D

Alas, I don't think he a beard :D

Will see what he says and get them ordered from t'bay if he says it's ok.

I'd only F it up if I did it myself.
Cheers all!

Not sure how much your paying for them on ebay, but Gamola have Mizuno grips.......

mizuno grips

However, if your wanting to do it a bit cheaper then check out some of the other grips on the site ( Sharpro, Lamkin etc) you can pick up decent ones for £2/£3. Ive had the Sharpro Multicompound on my clubs for the last couple of years and they been great - and less that half the price of the Golf Pride's

Cheers mate. If I were changing them all I would look at different grips, but I like the stock mizzy ones and it will mean all my clubs are matching. Once I've changed them, they will hopefully all wear at the same rate too so next time I replace them, I can get a full matching set of whatever.
