I know you'll be trying your best anyway, but the easiest way to get your handicap lower is to shoot low scores on your qualifying rounds.

Sounds obvious but when you're playing for your hcap every shot under +16 is a shot off your handicap. Once you're in a medal every shot under gets you 0.3. Big difference.

I wish I'd have thrown a 79 or 80 in on mine.

Dude, don't put too much pressure on the massive handicap cut this year. At the end of the day what will be will be. A qualifying comp off the whites is a whole different ballgame (and mindset) to a knock around with your mates off the yellows. If you have the genuine talent for this game then (over time) your handicap will reduce down to its natural level, whatever that may be. Just accept it. There are guys at my place who plough literally hundreds and hundreds of pounds into lessons every year in their quest for single figures yet its clear that they'll never make a single figure golfer as long as they have a hole in their arse.
