Decided to change after thinking theres a reason Speith McIlroy, Tiger, Jack use this. I have never tried it and went out for a game today after a corp invite pulled out - I have to say I now fully understand what Tom Watson says when he states "the right hand is just on for the ride"

easier to 'lag' and short game has less tendency to thin with an overactive strong right hand.

It felt very strange to start but stuck with it and had a wonderful round of solid striking and laser sharp wedges.

To top it off there was a breathtaking carvery and some waiting staff who were very pleasant on the eye.

Top day

I think it's just a case of finding what works best for the individual.

I don't buy the "so-and-so uses it so...." because there will be a rather large number of golfers better than me with every type of grip.

I tried the same change a few months ago but found my fingers were getting very sore after a couple of weeks. Went back to Vardon grip for my long irons and woods but have carried on with interlocking grip for wedges and putter.

I might be a bit unusual here, but I regularly change between interlocking, vardon, & baseball grips. It just depends how I feel on the day. I've done this since I was a 16 year old & wasn't sure which one to use. I'm comfortable with all three. I might chip & putt with reverse overlap too if it takes my fancy.

The only way I can get the interlock to feel comfortable is having a ridiculously strong right hand (almost under the club)

Not for me.

I've always used interlock and find vardon uncomfortable, like I can't keep the hands together. But then I've small hands. How small? Ladies glove M/L cos Mens Small is too big.

Yeah.

Jack has small hands for all his bulk and attributed that to his adoption of the grip.

I always used to interlock (for 25yrs), I've recently changed to overlap.
I did this as I have a tendency to flip my hands over at impact (a remnant of my old pre-lessons swing). I find it harder to do this with the overlap as my right hand has less power over the swing.

I started with interlocking because it was what I was shown and Jack Nicklaus used it. However I later switched to the Vardon which has been far more successful. I have average sized hands but I don't buy this argument that interlocking suits those with small hands. In fact, if you have small hands I would suggest that you need to use the baseball grip, otherwise you can't get enough 'hand' on the grip.
