CentreParcs

Can't think why parents take their kids out of school........

We used to go on a weekend in Jan/Feb. Picked the kids up straight from school and bombed down to Penrith. We could be there for 6pm on a Friday night. We would then leave at around 6-7pm on the Sunday night. Nothing really lost over leaving Monday morning. The hardest bit was finding your way out of the car park as they close all but one exit and in the dark it was hard to find it. I once took 30 minutes to get to my lodge!

I'm guessing it'll be the Elvedon Forest site that you've booked?

You'll probably end up spending more than you originally budget for, and aside from the swimming pool there's not a lot that you don't pay extra for.

Eating in the lodge is a good penny-saving option if you're organised and take everything with you, (the on-site shops are a lot more expensive) and you've got people in your party that are happy to cook and clean up 3 times a day (which eats in to your 'doing stuff' time

Been to Elevdon 3 times now, it's great.

Actually off to a different one that is equal drive for all the family.

With 6 adults we are well sorted for cover for washing up, won't eat into any doing time at all.

All activities booked bar a few, so far it's coming in under budget. With most of food being brought in I've only got to pay for extras for my wife and toddler while on site. She just drinks water and we are bringing all his stuff with us. So really my budget just covers
Pool tables, mini golf and beer!

This is my 6th CentreParcs trip, still just as excited as I was for the other 5!

Got back yesterday.

Summary= Brilliant!

Our villa had reserved parking 10 meters from the villa, still in the main car park though.

Sadly the people before us didn't move out the spots till after 11, had to get guest services to get the cars moved which took a while. Once in we started a brilliant break.

Using the app on our tablets we found booking activities for the following morning very easy. Soon had two very full days! I am glad we booked some in advance however as those were fully booked. We got the balance just right.

The worst part was the pool, it as still very good and well run, just not as good as Elvedon, our standards are high after going there.

Overall Sherwood was great! We didn't eat our, ate in which was the best way IMO as cooking, eating and washing became an activity we on its own.

Will do elevedon next time though if we can.

Overall great value if you don't eat out we did over 12 activities across the 6 adults and one toddler, not counting the free things.

Always loved CP, we only went when children were preschool. Now they are in school it is far too expensive to justify.

As we always ate out too while there I kind of always felt that they installed a tap on my wallet on entry.

Shame really would love to go back, however we would need to take children out of school to be able to afford it. But then i'm become a criminal and need to be fined appropriately by our free nation.

Going to centre parcs in a couple weeks. Not really looking forward to it as was against the idea but my sister wanted to go for a family holiday.

Hoping to be surprised. I hate tourist traps and rip offs, I travel a lot and take foreign holidays 6+ times a year so have become very cynical of bad value.

Currently replying to this thread whilst sat in a villa in Longleat Forest. My family and I go to Centre Parcs each year as our holiday (vary between the different sites) as having a young family (4 kids all under 8) we find it easier to have come to Centre Parcs where the kids can play in the pool, parks, woods than to travel abroad where we wouldn't have the same level of facility for the price.

It can become very expensive to engage in the activities/eat out ect so as most do we buy our shopping in advance. For us it's a great family holiday. We will be looking to go abroad once the children are a tad older but would be very interested to hear other people's opinions and recommendations for similar holidays to Centre Parcs.

Yoo can go and just use the pool and feel like value for money. It is possible to not spend a penny while there.

The only food I bought over the whole weekend was two coffees on arrival day and three doughnuts, everything else came in our cars. A big cool bag helps of course!

We fed six adults and a toddler from the fridge and cupboards without issue.
Roll on next trip!

I've never really considered centre parts as always like a sunshine break.

Just did did a little Google. Certainly be sticking to abroad. Their increases during peak (when I'd have to go) is more ridiculous than European holidays!

Move to Scotland.......our school dates differ from England/Wales and we get some great deals.:whoo:

That's the way to do it........also take as much sport equipment as you can especially things like tennis/table balls/racket/bats. Buying a bike rack before hand is also cheaper than a one off hire. Chose a few 'pay for' activities and spread them out over the days.
Some of the 'loaded up' cars going in on entry day look amazing.

Seems to be no fence sitters when Centre Parcs discussed!

The brand based misspelling of Park is enough to stop me going! :whoo:

You have missed the other misspelling of Centre... they are called Center Parcs.
It grates like fingernails on a blackboard to me everyday I go past the Woburn one for work or going to golf.
Another thing that annoys me is that it's not that close to Woburn either! Millbrook, Ampthill and Flitwick are much closer.
