I went yesterday, ok I'll admit to it I am a smoker
and I was shocked to see how many pro's smoked
and one in particular Nick Dougherty and he Was
smoking out on the course (and with his game -5)

Yea I know what you are saying; players and caddies are often found smoking down the fairway. The TV cameras are always careful not to show it though, so as to avoid 'promoting' it. They flicked onto Thomas Bjorn smoking yesterday, and quickly changed the picture they were broadcasting. I am surprised at how many do smoke, but then again even when there is now a considered requirement for a reasonable degree of physical fitness for golfers, most of this is strength / power based and rarely reliant on the respiratory system. Therefore it will probably have very little impact on their actual golf specific training (if they do it) or their actual game. I still don't condone it mind, I just do not like smoking for some reason. Oh and you wouldn't see Tiger doing it ;)

It was my first ever tournament that I had been to
and like you say TV does not show players smoking
and that is why I was so surprised to see so many
players and caddies smoking

Surely any smoker isn't maximising their fittness. So whilst it might not affect their ability to actually hit the ball, surely it'll affect their stamina ?

Which will show itself as mental weakness towards the end of the round, when they really need to stand up and be counted.

I understand that a nice puff is good for those stressful moments, but there must be a healthier way of reducing the pressure on themselves ?
