Took out one of these golf insurance packages recently (more for the free game vouchers than the insurance), one of which is for a round at Celtic Manor. Phoned them up to book and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. My friend and I are booked to play on the Roman Road course later this month. Anyone played it? Is it a good course?

I am heading there in February to play 2 rounds. One on the Montgomery and one on the twenty-ten. Can't wait, though I have heard the Monty is a long walk!

I've played it a few years ago. Slowest round of golf ever - I swear there was a par 3 with four groups already waiting on the tee when we got there! Take a packed lunch and a book to read.

Are you both using the free vouchers? I've get a few of them but sure it say's on the back you can only use 1 per 4 ball?

The Roman Road is a good course, some of the holes can play a bit long when the wind is blowing. There are some decent views up the Usk valley.
They've just changed the layout, so its par 37 out and 33 back with three par 5's on the front and none on the back.
I enjoy playing it, although I've not been out for a couple of weeks because of work, etc.

Less imaginatively laid out than the other 2 courses but when I was there it was in beautiful condition.
Very slow round however.

Played our round yesterday. Had o swap onto the Montgomerie course after a late date change. What a lovely course, albeit the hardest I have ever played! Ended up shooting 109, lost about 5 balls, found about 6 more, and stupidly neglected advice about buggies and chose to walk round. BIG mistake! Still, ended the round with a 320yd drive on the 18th, gir and two putts for par, so walked off with a smile!

Lucky me has just won the Ryder cup experience in one of the Golf magazines competitions
Includes 2 nights B&B at the resort, a round of golf on each of the courses plus buggies, travel expenses and use of the spa. Woohoo! I can't wait, jut booked it for Oct. Thats the 2nd big prize win of the year, I won a Motocaddy S1 lithium with bag and all accesories about 6 months ago.
