A good friend booked the ‘Stay & Play’ package via Your Golf Travel and thought I’d let folks know how it went.

The package was £550 for two and included a superior twin room in the main hotel (we were on the 8th floor), a round of golf each day (2) and breakfast.

Never been to the venue before, but as a 5 star, expectations were high.

It’s a massive site and accommodation is mainly in the hotel, but split across a couple of cheaper options on/just off site and some lodges for larger groups.

As the site is so widespread, free shuttle buses are on hand to take you wherever you want, at a moments notice. To golf, dinner, driving range etc.

The hotel was decent, albeit wouldn’t put it at 5 star. The staff are friendly in the majority. There’s around 8 places to eat. We chose Steak by Six, the fancy one with a set menu at £80 a head and it was worth it. There’s an American diner, Chinese, amongst others. The breakfast was decent and there’s loads of bars.

The guests are golfers, spa visitors (we could have used in the package) and the obligatory weddings.

Newport is a few minutes away and Cardiff about 20 mins, for those who want to venture out.

We played the Roman Road on the first day and the Montgomerie on day two. It rained a couple of days previous to our visit, so the hard pan fairways played well. Greens were fabulous.

We didn’t play the 2010 course, but just looking at it, everyone should!

Took a buggy day one and the cart path rule makes a round not as enjoyable as walking. We hired electric trollies for the Montgomery and had a much better day, albeit clocking up over 18,500 steps.

Everything is expensive in the pro shops and buggies/trollies for two is fifty quid. Halfway house has the usual sausage rolls (naff), drinks and snacks.

If you fancy the destination, I’d say it was reasonable value, but I’d try to book all three courses to see full benefit. Could be a good couples break, incorporating golf, spa and nice surroundings and choice of food.

Very well run in all aspects.

Was it one nights accommodation or two?

One night in the main hotel (inc breakfast). One twin room.

Round one Friday, round two Saturday and home.

Buggies/trollies and everything else extra.

Didn't research pricing as it was a present.

We just came back from a trip here. We booked through your golf travel as well.
We played the 2010 on Sunday and Montgomerie Monday.
2010 was amazing, brilliant course, Montgomorie also very good, we found it the harder of the 2, the greens were lightning quick and the fringes cut longer then the 2010 which made chipping hard on the fast greens.

We paid £280 per person staying in Couldra Court Hotel just off the main site. We had £30 each for dinner and breakfast included so decent value we felt.

The 2010 experience is amazing, you get picked up form the clubhouse 30 minutes before your tee time, they drive you to the first tee which has a driving range, chipping area and practice green next to it. You get 30 minutes to warm up before your tee time.

We all enjoyed it very much! Getting to watch Europe win the Ryder cup Sunday evening in the Hotel was nice!

Did you book it direct, go through an agent, or put the trip together individually yourself?

£275 pp is not a crazy figure for that type of venue. Blimey, there are a number of courses where that doesn't even get you a round of golf. One night, two rounds, including a Saturday tee time, that's not outrageous.

Personally I would say that's not great value. Doesn't include the 2010 course, which is the star attraction, the other two courses are £50 green fees.

BobbyA paid the same and his package included the 2010 and dinner.

That's up to the individual 🤷. That price included a Saturday round, peak day, and was for the hotel on site, not off-site, Friday night, not a Sunday which is always cheaper.

Both seemed happy with what they paid/ the package and that's what matters.

And no faff, calling x, y and z for tee times, rooms, meals etc.

Great value, but if I did it again, I'd want to play the 2010.
