In light of IanG's encounter with Bones Mackay, I wondered if you'd ever seen any celebrities playing the same course, at the same time as you? My best 'spot' was at The Mere near Knutsford, Gordon Banks was playing in the group ahead of me. I joked that Bobby Charlton was coming later and the starter told me "he is a member here, Sir"! :D

AP McCoy plays at my gaff quite a bit, as do a lot of the horse racing world. That's about the best i have. I did meet Sam Torrance at my club where he was filming for an advert for old man golf aids! Nice bloke!

A few years back i'm sure Kevin Pietersen was on the County (Rose Bowl) course in front of us. I didn't know who he was at the time but remember the blonde streak in his hair cos it looked a bit daft and am now pretty sure it was him as it was just after he had signed for Hampshire.

at the GM hillside day a couple of years ago a couple of ex footballer members played through and attempt to maim LouiseA. Messers Hansen and daglish

Saw a premiership footballer at The addington a couple of years back. He was sat in the club house having some food, watching the footie. I genuinely can't remember who it was.

Paul Lawrie, plays a Nairn a few times a year and had is foundation there a couple of weeks ago and played 3 holes each with quite a few of our juniors.

last time the Scottish open was at CS, Phil played one night and so did Padraig and the same night we had Mark Crossfield hacking his way around with a couple of the Mizuno guys behind me and dave

Last winter 2 very decent chaps invited me to join up with them on the first tee as I was on my own. We chatted generally and got on very well throughout the round. A few holes in the conversation came round to football. Jon the guy I was chatting to at the time mentioned that he was the president of the Lions and Legends Charity (involving ex Villa players) and the other guy was Gordon Cowens European Cup winning ex Villa player and now second team manager. It's a funny coinsidence as well because I went to school with and played football with Gordon's brother Vince

Michael Parkinson followed us at Swinley. Vinnie Jones at Centurion with a ghetto blaster. Bumped into Hugh Grant at Sunningdale. Actually I held the door open for him, and he didn't even say thank you.

Used to play a bit at Blackmoor with Calum Giles (GB hockey player, record goals and caps I believe)

When I was very young I chatted to Max Bygraves on the first tee at Parkstone. I said I was very young !!!!;)

Bobby Charlton used to live, may still do, in Ollerton just outside of Knutsford. Mere is the nearest nice course so I would expect the starter was quite right. Mere was very popular with Man Utd players and Granada actors, Coronation Street etc. in the 80's and 90's. Whether it is still the place they play at I am not sure but star spotting in that time was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Did you not see Ronnie there ?
I remember hearing Ian Wright was a member there, was it him ?

It wasn't Ian Wright.
I want to say it was Bobby Zamora but I am not 100% sure if that is right. It was definitely a recent footballer, played in the top flight.

Glenn Hoddle was out in Spain at Motecastillo a few years ago for training with which ever youth set up he was involved in. He wasn't playing golf, they were just out at the same venue at the time.

Yes but at least he found my ball for me and I felt obliged to tell him how I had always rated him:whistle:

Until he moved away from Leics in the early '90s I played regularly with Gordon Banks as he was a member at Kirby as was Gary Lineker. Also the '66 World Cup squad played there in a charity event.

The other week we bumped into (literally) Sean Murphy, the snooker player, at Wellingborough.

I've got it, I've got it. It was John Carew.
I had to google 'ex premiership footballer John' as I roughly remembered who it was.

Saw guan tianlang (the 14 year old who made the cut at the masters ) a few months after the masters in America . I had just finished my round but the pro and guan were kind enough to let me tag along with them for a few holes . That's when I realised how good the pros are .

Played half a dozen holes with the late great Eric Sykes at Wyke Green many moons ago...

Also, when using driving range at Wexham, Gus Poyet rocked up for a lesson in the adjacent booth... He then stalked me onto the practice putting green... Seemed more than affable...

Sir Trevor Brooking is a member at my club. I haven't played with him yet, but quite often see him out on the putting green.

He generally plays in the comps with his wife, but every now and then plays the monthly medals.
