Hi, i don't usually start a thread but I'm in need of help. I'm thinking of getting some cavity back after discovering that I'm possibly not good enough to use my MP30's. Has anyone got any suggestions as to which ones are a good buy? I'm not just talking about the lastest super duper ones, but ones that can be hunted down on e bay. I'm quite taken with the Cleveland CG gold / red or cg7. IO've tried the cobra S2 R flex and pushed all shots right so R flex may not be for me. So that said, any suggestions would be welcome.

assuming your looking for a game improver type of iron then I dont think youd go far wrong with any of the Callaway X range, all the way back to the X12s are decent

i tried a ping g15 7 iron the other day while i was at the range and it was quite frankly astounding. it was also quite frankly the ugliest club i have ever seen. after hitting numerous 7 irons with my x forged, i picked this one up and knocked it 20 yards past my best, and straight as a die...4 times!! if they had a full set in the shop, i would probably have bought them there and then. fortunately for me, they didnt...

Or if you want to keep the Mizzy style (who wouldn't ;)), MP-52's have a subtle cavity and mostly anything from the MX Range which you should be able to pick up relatively cheap these days.

Agreed!

I play with MX200's, which are a game improvement iron, but which are also forged and very sexy, IMHO!

I've got the cg red irons and love them. You'd be able to pick up them, the cg golds or cg 7 pretty cheap now i'd have thought.

The cg red dont have a big cavity or wide sole. I went from using blades to them and they dont look or feel huge like some.

Another vote for the Cleveland CG7's here. I bought a set of the black pearls before Xmas and they're absolutely superb. The easiest set of clubs to hit i've ever owned.

Like many others I'd got stuck into the mentality that to play off of single figures you'd need to be playing "players" clubs. The penny finally dropped that all I was doing was making the game more difficult than it need be, hence the move to a much more forgiving club.

UP1.

I started golf last year with a set of Ping G15s. Found them very easy to hit. But after a while I wanted to try something different so got a 2nd-hand set of Ping S57s and loved them. I couldn't hit quite as far nor as well, but decided to persevere. I've now upgraded to a new set of Ping S56s (SS300 shaft) and they are very very sweet indeed.

Recently I hit my old G15s for comparison. I was shocked at how ugly they looked (like bricks on the end of sticks) and how little control I had.

So from experience I would suggest that the G15s wouldn't last long if you're into game improvement. If it's a weekend swing then probably yes. Maybe something in between is better (the I15s)?

Go to a Mizzy dealer who has the fitting cart and Swing DNA. That will diagnose the most suitable shaft, which is the most important part, then select a suitable head. The JPX800 and Pro are getting a lot of good press and suit a wide range of players if properly fitted.

There are loads of confusing options for one reason - no single club style will suit us all.

Before you splash the cash try out as many of the club styles that please your eye and are within your budget. If you are thinking new then go for custom fitting.

I agree, hit as many different clubs as you can before thinking of buying rather than listening to others opinions. I tried Ping irons that I didn't like one bit, Mizuno irons and Wilson Staff clubs, that I nearly bought, before settling on the Titleist AP2's when I changed my clubs a couple of weeks back.

The X12s were the mutts nuts, if the new models are half as good you won't go far wrong.

Ping I or g 10 will be available on ebay for only a little more than you will shift your mp30s. Sounds like regular flex would be the option you want but if you get pings and spend an hour or two with a pro ping will re-fit them for you. Go on you know it makes sense.

I had a set of X14's and regret ever letting them go really. Another set I had which should be easy to pick up 2nd hand cheaply were the TM Tour Burners which were less of a cavity than the Burner itself and still pretty forgiving

I had a set of mx 200's which looked great, but I had the dynamic gold high launch shafts which were not great. I now have G 15's which are not the best looking but I love them. Look for a set of g5's or g10's which won't be expensive. My first ever set was a set of cobra s9's. These are defo worth a look as well!!!!

I bought a set of Wilson Pro Staff LCD? clubs last year when i started playing. I love them, really easy to hit, looks smart and great feel.

The whole set, including driver, 3 wood, hybrid and bag was only £250 so im more than happy :-)
