Tonight after waiting nearly 2 months i'll pick up my new irons (Cobra Fly-Z's) so I thought I'd prepare the bag by tossing the old-uns into the spare room

I'm sure you're all familiar with them but this is the new toys:
fly-z.jpg

Brand new and 1/2 the price they were at launch, needless to say I'm quite excited

To keep them looking new I thought I'd dust off the previous Cobra branded iron head-covers that I used to use on my King Cobras a few years back:

I'm sure you see the problem.... The positioning of the plastic window to identify the club is wholly unsuitable for these Cobras as the club numbers are stamped on the toe!

So until I can get some of these shipped in 2-3 months:

I'm left with making sure I don't impact pace of play searching for the right club
(as the anti-iron headcover groupies on here will tell you it can take several minutes just to remove one headcover from an iron and the same again to replace it, so we're potentially looking at an extra 73 minutes added to a round because of this issue)

Now fortunately I'm quite fastidious about replacing a club back into the correct slot in the bag so I can narrow down the search time but with an 11 slot bag & 13 clubs I will have to double up the irons somewhere so I think I can reduce the search time to about 22 minutes per round but I fear this isn't enough

Do I:
  • Just accept that I'll be a slower player & make FC's aware of this on the 1st tee
  • Get a label making machine and put labels on the window with correct club number
  • Email Cobra blaming Britain's exit from the EU and asking for a new putter
  • Complain on their social media pages to shame them into action
  • Take the chipper out to give me another slot in the bag
  • Write club number on the existing cover with a sharpie

Help...

(flippant comments such as "I don't bother with iron-headcovers" or "chips & dings from bag clatter add character to your clubs" will not be viewed as helpful)

As well as any advice you can give me please feel free to add your own 1st world golfing problems to this thread...

I would go with the label making machine. I have one and they are quite addictive (at least for a whille ... the novelty wears off after you are through your first two or three rolls of labels). I labelled everything: all my golf clubs (with name and telephone no, in case I lose one), all the wires and chargers for my electronic devices, all bags and packs that I could possible, one day in the future, use as luggage ... you see, even when your headcovers are replaced by the proper model in a few weeks, the label machine is not a waste of money. Go for it!:D

Secret option that I took last month

ditch the covers

It must be heart rending for you hitting shots with your new irons & seeing them collect marks from impact with small stones in the turf. Here's an idea. Buy a crappy old, battered set of irons & use them. Leave the new ones at home, where they will remain pristine until you're ready for a change.

Or accept that they are tools &, like all tools, they will show signs of wear as they get used. If it doesn't affect the performance then so what?

Quite liking the lollipop stick idea (maybe adapt a wire coat hanger)

Patrick/MIB I really have no time for the sensible rational you two are spouting ;)

The cling film idea has potential if tweaked... I could fashion some headcovers made out of the bubble wrap the clubs are currently wrapped in and this gives me a transparent cover that can be removed and reused, we may have a winner

Chris didn’t your avatar used to be anatomically correct?

Here's my first world problem.

I bought a new (2nd hand) 5 wood and then bought a brand new shaft for said 5 wood. I've ordered the new shaft with the wrong adaptor, so it won't fit the new 5 wood. Do I sell the shaft? Or attempt to swap the adaptors over? Or try to get a refund? Tough.

You mean you were not fitted for headcovers at the same time as your irons ? Schoolboy error.

Fitted for irons! what madness is this, whoever heard the like, its a stick bent at the hitting end, once you buy mens/womes/kids its one size fits all.... like socks

You could always leave out a couple of clubs until the new head covers arrive. If you have new irons, you will probably want to hit them off the tee too, so the driver could go, and til you get used to them, you could take lots of shots, so putting is pointless too. Problem solved?

1st world golf problem - Golf towels when attached to your bag , on the correct hook, and are on your trolley, come into contact with your wheels. Fine when dry but when the ground is wet and muddy this gets passed on to your towel. Any tips for keeping the towel off the wheels and leaving it dry and able to clean clubs / golf balls as it is meant to do. I need it to be easily accessible so stuffing into a pocket does not do the job.

Answer to other 1st world golf problem, labels or sharpie on existing head covers.

:) very good

1st world golf problems.......panicking when your battery runs out on your dmd, your gps watch can't get a signal so you have to actually pace yardages out !!!!!

Also, the battery ran out on my mates remote control power trolley last season, he was distraught at the thought of 'pulling' a rental trolley . Luckily, we have power caddies that can be rented, he wasn't happy at having to keep hold of it though.

I am actually questioning whether this is a joke? I've read the OP a few times and can't quite get my head round the whole "few minutes to remove a head cover" "73 minutes per round." Am I missing the point or the joke?

if however this is true - Sharpie will do the job or just go and buy a really cheap set of head covers with numbers on?
