Well troops, after about 30 or more years of playing golf I’ve finally made category one. I shot 74, CSS 70, with some miraculous escapes and some really good short iron play. I was on the verge a few weeks ago when I got down to 5.5, but after a couple of wayward medal rounds I went up a couple of points and was wondering if I was ever going to make it.

Better still, it was in the first round of club championship qualifying and that puts me through, top 32 and ties, to the second round in a couple of weeks.

So, started this year at 7 and now I’m at 5. Not bad for a 56 year old learner, I’m still learning, and I guess the hard part is staying there.

Well done Tommo, welcome to the cat 1 club. You must be doing something right.

I was close to playing off 1, 2 seasons ago but didn't make it so here's hopeing.

We can only but try!

Well, as a young whipper-snapper of 47, I guess there IS hope of me getting down to Singles after all ?!

So close now off 11.6, but after trying perhaps 'too hard' for the last few months, I'm gonna relax and see what happens.

You Da man Tommo!

Many congratulations, from accounts of your rounds I have read on here (by you and others) you have been playing quite solid golf for a while. So a Cat 1 handicap is much deserved. Here's hoping you get lower still.

Congratulations. I imagine that gives you a nice warm feeling inside? :D

No it doesn't, as soon as you get to 5 you want to be off 4 then 3 etc etc even though it means its harder to win anything :D

That's golf, you will never beat it. None of us will ever be truly satisfied with it, if we were we'd stop playing and do something else!

What can I say? Simply brilliant mate.....

Well played Tommo, very inspiring! Anybody that can play golf to that standard deserves all the accolades.

Golfmmad.
