The times I tend to catch it fat are when I'm hitting an "easy" wedge or chipping onto the green and tend to look up fractions before I hit it to see where it has gone or if I am between clubs on a par 3 and try to ease or steer the bigger iron in. I guess I'm decelerating and that's not good.

Exactly the same here, hardy ever hit it fat when taking a full swing, but as you say, just trying to 'baby' it is when my fat shots occurs. Rather than trying to hit gently, I now just go down the grip, and take a crisp 3/4 swing and that seems to help. Still hit the divot further than the ball on one 50yrd pitch on Sunday though!

I was having problems with hitting it fat before my last lesson. sorted now though.

with me, the problem was maintaining my posture through the swing. on the back swing, i was straigtening my right leg which in turn caused my body to tilt to the left. on the downswing and follow through, laws of physics dictated that my body tilted in the opposite direction causing me to come in behind the ball and hit it fat.

i was given a simple drill and it's been brilliant.

go to the range and hit half of your balls with your feet together. maintain the bend in your knees and keep your chest in line with (over) the ball making sure to maintain your posture through the swing. make sure and rotate those shoulders though. once you're hitting every ball sweet, move your feet apart and make sure and keep the posture. if you start doing it again, hit another 5 or 6 balls with your feet together, then try again.

works for me
