Played there last week with Algar5. These were the two posts we put up after our game. Hope this helps with your decision on whether to play. Maybe August if it's a dry summer. The layout seemed good but condition questionable!
Craw,

Believe me no one would have volunteered or indeed wanted to caddie at The Carrick yesterday. Course was absolutely soaking and the wake behind my trolley wheels was a first for me. Was tempted to get a pair of water ski's on and get towed up the fairways instead of tip toeing across the few and far between dry patches.

As for the putting surfaces it was a case of trying to find the green stuff on the heavily sanded greens.

I'm no course designer or greenkeeper but there are some serious drainage issues on the course.

As you'll have guessed I wasn't impressed.

Notwithstanding the problems with the course. Shark, Thankyou for a most enjoyable day and look forward to playing again soon.

Roll on Machrihanish !!!
Don't listen to Algar5 he was just playing bad and wanted something to blame. Short 5 minute shower max. The course was in tip top condition. Before we went out I made sure all pigs were fed and ready to fly.

How bad can one course be? Longest water hazard ever, I hear they may drain it and call it the 17th fairway one day. More sand on the fairways (Just to soak up water) than they have at Ayr beach and the greens, well there was some grass on some but in the imortal words of Paul Daniels "Not a lot!". To cap it off there was not one hole that looked like it had been cut in the last week or if they had the greenkeeper had used a shovel, they were all collapsing in at the top (nearer 3 1/2" than 4 1/2").

Thank goodness for the company or boy would my review of the courses' condition have been bad. I probably missed the bad bits of the course and that is why I reviewed it so favourably
