Does anybody else suffer from this?

I finished my game on Saturday and have that "bruised" feeling in my right thumb. I got the same in my left thumb a few years back and a long dose of physio on my upper back and neck seemed to sort it out - as well as playing a lot of golf and building some strength in that area.

Does anybody have any suggestions on any exercises or routines that can help this somewhat annoying condition. I really don't fancy going back to BUPA and them telling me to lay off the golf.

Funnily, I am wondering if carrying a bag will help - I have recently bought a push trolley, which whilst much more convenient and less tiring means I am not moving my shoulders and upper back as much as I would be picking up and putting down a bag. :D

Carpal Tunnel Exercises

Carpal tunnel exercises should be done by individuals who perform hand-intensive jobs. These exercises should be performed at the start of each workday and during a break. It reduces the amount of pressure on the median nerve in the carpal tunnel and prevents injury. A few important exercises for avoiding the carpal tunnel syndrome are discussed below:

* The most important thing to do is to get up from your desk and move around every 1/2 hour

* Extend and stretch both wrists and fingers acutely as if they are in a handstand position

* Straighten both wrists and relax fingers

* Make a tight fist with both hands and bend both wrists down.

* Take your arms out to the sides with the palms facing down. Extend your fingers and stretch through the elbows. On exhaling, rotate your shoulders back and bring the palms facing up.

Nerve Gliding exercises: Keep the wrist neutral and bend the fingers towards palm. Now straighten the fingers and bend the wrist and fingers backwards. Stretch the wrist, fingers and thumb backwards. Spread the wrist, fingers and thumb with the palm facing the ceiling.

Tendon gliding exercises: Keep the wrist neutral and stretch the thumb away with fingers straightened. Clench last 2 knuckles of each finger towards the palm with the wrist neutral. Slide the tips of the fingers as far past the palm and stretch thumb backwards while keeping the wrist neutral.

Or when you wake up with no feeling & pins & needles all over your hand and wrist, start banging it against the wall... Actually it doesn't do much good but for some reason seems to be about the only thing to do.

Carpel Tunnel is a vile complaint & wouldn't wish it on anyone. Most of the stretches & excercises above should help, gentle excercise & manipulation & general complete movement of hand & wrist should help. My doctor offered me an injection for mine, but turned that down because of the things i'd heard about that sort of injection. Ironically Golf actually up to a point helps my carpel tunnel, though i know when i've been over doing thingss & that's the realanswer to carpel tunnel & the loss of feeling or use in a hand or part of a hand.

Officially carpel tunnel according to my doctor affects tyhe thumb & index & I believe middle finger, whereas the other tunnel which he did tell me the name of but can't remember the name of right now in the wrist affects the ring finger & pinky, I've had both problems from time to timewith my job...

not that anyone in management at work will accept that my work is relevent to any form of RSI & other injuries when infact the combination of stress of heavy weights & repeadedly so causes a problem.

Best ofluck coming out of the other side, as I've know people having to have surgery to correct the problem...ouch.

Oh & anyone who plays a musical instrument will know the heartacheof not being able to feel the instrument they are playing under their fingers. It really was a pain in the arse when I was trying to play bass in my last groupsome time ago. I played whole gigs barely aware of the strings only the pain & numbness in my hands

My sister had an OP for her carpel tunnel problem and it worked for her, not quite sure how it happens but a narrowing somewhere in the wrist is what they freed off, but she had a terrible trouble with it, hope you dont.
