I'm needing a new car and nothing excites me or grabs my attention out there just now- that I can afford- so any suggestions about reliable cars for a bloke that are

A) good for a mature bloke to drive ie not a smart car or obviously a girls car
B) good boot that takes the clubs and trolley ok
C) not an obvious merc c class, Audi a4,5,6, BMW 3 or 5 etc
D) must be comfy inside, got oomph and good technology
E) prob no more than 4 yrs old

Just looking for ideas and recommendations as I've always just gone for the main brands in the past.

Thanks

The new Passat is lovely... And it's a VW...Bonus...

Mondeo mondeo mondeo mondeo.

Seriously, the MkIV's are awesome. We bought a year old model with 22k on the clock, titanium spec which comes with the majority of the toys (go for titanium x if you want absolutely everything) for less than 12 grand. It's like driving an arm chair on the motorway, cheap to service, they look quality and the boot is big enough for about 6 golf bags. only downside is the fuel economy on short urban trips around town. It's not terrible, but it's built for long journeys.

If you can afford it, the new (11plate or newer) one is even acer.

Anything made by Seat is good my mum has a Toledo and its got plenty of oomph, my dad is also currently looking for a new car but he is stingy he was telling me about some 07-09 Jaguar XFs which are cracking cars. I myself have a Fiat Panda which I wouldn't reccomend for transporting clubs!!

Only had German last umpteen years so I suppose a Japanese is where I'm heading with recommendations.

Japanese in that range would lean toward Lexus then.

I would go passat or mondeo. They are polular for a reason - they're great cars at reaonable prices

If you go german. Go newer rather than older. The germans kinda slipped in qaulity around 04-07ish. The newer stuff is alot better.
I'd personally go mazda or ford.
The Mazda 3 MPS is proper motor that is fairly bullet proof quality wise (other than the turbos going pop)

Skoda Superb /QUOTE]

There ya have it .. best value car around .. massive boot space , vw technology at skoda prices .. i work in VW Dealership & i can tell you you wont go wrong wit an octavia or uf you have the extra bobs a superb ,, If you are going vw the passat is lovely but the Jetta is perfect trouble free car aswell , search over ha only 4 to choose from now . :)

Good call totaly correct esp regarding the passat , 05/06 models not great , they had it right in 07 tho ... i didnt mention this in my origional reply as you said "prob no more than 4 year old

Mondeo, have had 4 and only changed because fancied something different, they really are great cars. Currently with a Peugeot 508 and its great but boot size is poxy, you really need the estate with the 508.
