Car prices

The car I test drove was up for £14,999 on the screen, a 5 month old TitX. I told the salesman I was interested in the car but would be sticking my Corsa in PX and paying the rest in cash. After the test drive I said OK lets do a deal, what will you give me for my car and I will pay the rest in readies. I had a figure of £7500 for my car (which was optimistic as WBAC offered my £7000) and I also had £6500 in the bank. After a talk with the manager the salesman came back with the deal which was my car plus £8000.

Told him quite politely that was not going to happen, I have a maximum of £6500 and that is it, so I walked. Two days later I was actually going to look at another Focus at Jennings when he rang me and said the manager would give me the deal I wanted if I bought the car today. Drove back and done the deal and also haggled a full tank out of them.

I don't know if they took money off the screen price or they undervalued my trade in but I saved £1000 if all the figures were correct what he came up with. The annoying thing was when I went back to the dealers to enquire about some car mats my car was outside with a £9999 sticker on it, bloody cheek.

Has the Focus you are interested in got the 125 PS or 100 PS engine ????. I know the 125 version is pretty pokey but I never drove the 100 as I couldn't find a TitX with that engine.

125 PS, wanted to try the 148, 1.6T, but they've sold it.

Good luck with that, I was a pure cash buyer when we bought our Qashqai, went to about 4 dealers and even called a few more, no one would budge more than about £300. And we're talking about spending £8k too. Its not as if I was trying to bargain £500 off a £2k Fiesta or anything.

What spec did you get for that (and where from).
That's the car the wife wants for the new commute.

I think you might get a surprise with the 125 but it all depends what you are used to. I don't like to rag my cars but I do like to drive them if you know what I mean. Plus I get 40mpg out of it and the road tax is only £30 and insurance is pretty cheap as well. Good luck tomorrow and don't forget to haggle although its the beginning of the month.

There is a reason the little 1.0 is in most peoples opinion the best engine they have ever made. I had it in my fiesta zetec s, and it was just great. It far out performed the 1.6Na in my previous zetec s.

I now have a new focus with the 1.6 diesel, and it's no way near as good. And would have preferred the ecoboost in there.

Nissan recently scrapped the 1.6 petrol engine in the Qashqai/Juke range and have introduced a 1.2 turbo petrol with a 6 speed gearbox. It totally transforms the car.
When we first heard they were doing it, we laughed. The 1.6 was gutless enough, we thought the 1.2 would be a joke.
But it's as sweet as a nut.
And the 6 speed gearbox helps immensely.
In the old 1.6 it sounded like it was revving it's goolies off at anything over 60mph but with the new engine and box it's only pulling 1,000 revs for every 30mph in top.
So at 3k you are cruising along at 90mph and can hardly hear the engine.
I would never had bought the 1.6 but I would go for the 1.2 Turbo in a heartbeat.
Smaller engines are the future.
Look at F1

We're looking at a diesel for the wife, as its a 100 mile daily commute.
What small SUV diesel would you recommend/suggest other than the cash cow ?

Thanks.

Off to dealer today, let the battle commence, although as already said think te days of bargaining big discounts are over.

You will get a decent discount on a new car this month, and there are some cracking finance deals around. March is one of the "big" months for new car targets.
But on used, don't expect too much. There is a severe shortage of decent second hand stock around and it's where dealers make their money.
There is no real profit at all in new car sales so they have to preserve it where they can.
I'm doing brand new Micra Visia's at £6995.00. Should be over £10k! I know it's not what you are looking for, but that goes to show you what sort of deals are around.
Good luck

When I changed cars some months back I got into sorting out the deal with the salesman. Every part of the conversation resulted in " I need to go and talk to the manager" finally I realised that I had got near the best deal I was going to achieve when he came out to me and we thrashed it out right down to the nearest £20's worth.

I'll take an old wedge in to help thrash out the deal !

Can you do that deal on a cash cow ?

That's a shame because Nissan offer "loyalty" deals to existing Nissan owners, which go a little bit above and beyond what they offer to "conquest" customers.
The only "deal" I could offer you would be on the last 1.2 TP model that I have in stock, an "Acenta Premium" in Metallic Magnetic Red, which is one down from the top of the range Tekna.
Comes with a load (and I do mean a LOAD) of standard equipment.
We could do this for the same price an a standard Acenta version (which is basically £1350.00 off the list price) and could offer a PCP finance scheme at 4.9% with a £1,000.00 Nissan finance deposit contribution, which would go on top of the value of your current cars part exchange price.
We could also offer 3 years Nissan servicing free of charge, which together with the 3 year warranty and 3 years full RAC cover would give you 3 years (hopefully) trouble free/low cost motoring.
We don't normally keep Qashqai's in stock, having to order from the factory, but we took a flier and ordered a few in February in colours we knew would sell.
Have sold 3 of them since Saturday and just have the Magnetic Red one left.

Thanks for þe offer, but I know she'd not want a red car, she tends to like blues and silvers.
Have you a website for your dealership ?
Have you
