Just had my insurance renewal through from the AA for next year informing me the lowest price they can find for me is £321.57. This is the LOWEST price they can get.
I was surprised as I turned 50 last year so felt sure I would get cheaper insurance instead of paying a few pounds more than last year.
I thought of Smiffy and called SAGA. ;)
Together with the online reduction of £20, the total for this years cover is now £101.72.
Just £220 off.
Happy days :D
I contacted the AA to cancel their cover and surprise surprise, no queue.
The AA guy said he couldn't match Saga's offer but if I wanted to stay with the AA he could knock off £100 making it £221.
Please, if you get a renewal quote, threaten to cancel and see how much you can save. In my case it was 30% off their LOWEST price.

I always shop around, and then get them to price match. Sometimes they won't match it, but get near enough that I don't change.
It bugs me when their on line web page gives me a better quote than the renewal. It's the same company for flips sake.

Anyone who doesnt check what other deals are available for any kind of utility bill/insurance is a fool. Plain and simple.

There is money to be saved out there for a bit of homework. I know I would rather have the money than give it to them.

Good work Bob, how many V-easys would you have to sell to get that sort of return :)

Insurance quotes seem very hit and miss, and some plain daft. One insurance sent me their renewal quote which was over £100 more than the same insurance on line. They insisted they couldn't lower the renewal so I'm not with them any longer.

Mine went up £60 for no reason (Tesco)...shopped around and got one with cheaper excess and more extras for £120 cheaper than last years with Admiral.

Phoned Tesco who said 'we can't match that but we will knock it back to £90 less than our original quote'.......Get tae F##k!was my reply. :(

Same happened with pet insurance...got one for a half the price and double the cover...thieving chancing bastards.

Being over 30 has its benefits, paying under 650 for the x5 and the wrx (each, both grp20 and northern Irish postcode) should come down a bit once the missus gets her ncb back after being on my insurance, her ncb lapsed.

I agree, - you HAVE to re-shop it around every renewal .....for everything !!

My M&S Home Insurance renewal popped in last week, pretty much same as last year, so I nearly filed it there and then.

However, a quick look on the Meerkats site showed me lost of savings, including, low & behold.......M&S !
After a bit of tweaking to ensure exact like for like cover, it saved me £100, 25%, and altho I rang them expecting them to match on my current renewal, they said I had to cancel my policy & complete the new one online !!

Crazy......yes.

£100 better off so do I care.......

HID is the worse for this. Everytime our buildings and contents or the car is up she just wants to happily stump up. I ask her to at least look at the online sites and get a few quotes but she says it's too much fuss and too hard. Muggins has to do it all but I usually get a good price. I have to say I don't take any crap when I call them and usually ask after about 30 seconds to be put through to a supervisor or someone empowered to give me the discount

Had my renewal drop through the door 2 weeks ago it went up from £550 to £870 with Churchill.

I wondered how as i thought it would go down a little when i turned 25 and now have 7 years no claims.Found a new policy online for £460 so called Churchill and after telling them i want to cancel the guy said'Have you found cover for half price?' I said yeah but i never told you that, all i got off him was your not the first and cancelled it there and then none of the usual haggling for me to stay which i was expecting

I recently had a renewal notice from privilege insurance and after having a quick search on the internet found it was way too dear. I phoned them to advise that i would not be renewing, and they said they could see that the cheapest quote i had was for £290. The crafty gits must have access to the searches we do on compare the market or the like .
Even if they will price match i tell them to stuff it as they have had their chance and forced me to spend time messing about sorting it out

Same here.

Had my renewal from Direct Line come through for the best part of £800.

Found an online quote with better cover for £410.

Rang DL to cancel and they didn't even ask why :D

I was looking forward to telling them I wouldn't stay just on principal that they tried to charge me that much, but they didn't even give me that pleasure

I guess they make a lot of money by people not bothering to shop around and just stump up.

I thought it was an un-written rule in insurance that you never stay loyal to the same company? Always switch after one year because it's in the second year that they claw back the money they lost in the first year.

I made the mistake a few years back of letting my buildings and contants insurance drift. I ended up paying £500 a year! Compare the meerkats told me that I could have both for £220!

I compare all of my insurances every renewal date now!

I checked through all my direct debit statements and guess what....they were all in credit. Water, gas etc, totalling a tidy £200 plus.
I'm having a go at my household insurance next :)
