£392 for a driving instructor policy seems not too bad thought it was set up to be low. Have you tried waveney at all they are usually good for drivign instructor policys?

my renewal quote through the post was about £100 higher than last year so I started doing the trawl. quite a few would quote one price through the comparison site then when you get down to it, its suddenly increased.

just for the hell of it I went to my current insurer on line to find their quote was a lot less than the one they mailed to me.

imo they will try anything; they've long overtaken estate agents in the battle for the least trusted, fiercely challenging politicians and bankers!

I changed to Aviva as well this year. The company I was with for the last two years refused to quote when I changed my car, despite maximum no claims, no points, no convictions and being an advanced driver!!!!!!!!

I'll never understand insurance companies.

Oh and guess who'll win in the ladies now don't get cheaper insurance, yip the bloody insurance companies, not joe public!

When I was with Direct Line my renewal premium rocketed despite no claims etc.
When I questioned them about it, and threatened to go elsewhere, the girl I spoke to admitted that for every one policy holder they had leave, they picked up 5 new ones each time, so they weren't really fussed.
So I left.

On Radio 5 live this morning they were saying that motor insurance has risen by 30% this year and a lot of that is because of around 30,000 scam claims by organised gangs doing the slamming on of brakes at the roundabout jobby!

I can believe this, but without wishing to sound like a knob (or Miss Daisy) surely if people were following at a safe distance, getting brake tested, wouldn't cause an accident?

I think they disconnect the break lights so although they slam on the breaks you would not see the lights. Before you see the car is breaking you've lost a serious amount of reaction time.

I've seen a video of this and it's very slick. It's normally against lorries so most lorries now have a video camera fitted - I can't remember what it's called - Black Hawk I think..

Anyway, one car normally changes lane erratically, causing the car in front to brake sharply and the lorry then has to swerve to avoid a collision - or - go into the back of the car - the latter is the normal outcome.

The car driver/owner then claims for all manner of injuries as does his passengers.

One gang has just been done for this - they made >£250,000 a year from claims.

They'll struggle to get insurance now.

Had my insurance renewal through. £509 from Elephant.

I have chugged it through Confused, which has best quote of £455 (from Admiral, the same company as Elephant, wtf), and Aviva which has £446. Direct line is £563 so they are out.

Any others I should try? (not saga, I'm not that old yet).

The one thing I can say about Direct Line is that they do get things sorted when you need them. Coincidentally I had my car broken into on Friday night. I called them at 9.15 on Saturday morning to report it. Whilst I was still on the phone processing the claim I had received calls on my mobile from the repair garage and the car hire company to sort that out. By 10.00 I had received a call from their replacement department to value my SatNav, they texted me a voucher for Comet to pick up a replacement and by 10.30 I had a new one in my hands. They may not be the cheapest but every time I have needed them they have come through.

neither Saga nor Rias would be much use even if you were old enough - neither of them like it if you actually use your car, and if you commit the henious offence of commuting.
More Than, at least for me, always tries to live up to its name and Aviva, based on my quote, make sure they add on the '2 months free' before they take it off.
Confused, Go Compare etc should have checked all the usual suspects.
