Got my renewal confirmation in today from Admiral quoting £681.00, all-in, for my 2006 Mk5 VW Golf GTI. That's a rise of almost £170.00 compared to last year!

A mate of mine had recently recommended Aviva, so I checked with them, as well as the usual 'Go Compare' et all and have taken out my policy with Aviva. Exactly the same cover, excess etc, the only difference being that I now have 'Guaranteed' NCB protection, rather than just Protected NCB. The price???

£331.97, all-in!!

Car insurance - what a scam!

It's a lottery. Aviva wasn't that competitive for me, and as for the 'over 50' companies, just don't bother if you still work and expect cover a few extra golfing miles.

Just phoned Admiral to advise them of my wish to cancel. The girl on the phone asks me if I would stay with them if they can get the quote down a bit. Classic 'slapped-across-the-face-with-a-wet-fish' moment when I told her what Aviva were charging"!!!! 'Sorry, did you say three three two?', she says?? :D :D :D

Recently had a discussion with my insurer when the renewal came through. Was told that all insurance is going up this year.

Funny how they want more after a couple of years when they've been hit. They certainly don't offer reductions if they've had a good year do they.

Bottom line, insurance is costing more.

If shopping about check very carefully you are getting exactly the same as you had with your original insurer. There are subtle differences in what is offered.

the other thing you have to check is automatic renewal, i had car and house with tesco for a good (at the time) rate, started looking around 11 months later and found better rate etc and moved providers, only to then find out that tesco had automatically renewed both insurance policies and took nearly a grand out of my bank account with no warning....they also have the worst imsurance claims team ever, took over 6 months to get a very basic burglary claim repaid

had the same prob with tesco, renewal was a 90 quid rise to 470 p.a fully comp for 1.8 54 reg cmax

went online and best quote was 325 with...... tesco insurance!!!! rang em and whinged, apparently they now use their own company to underwrite whereas before it was someone else. I went with Norwich Union for 335, a tenner dearer than tesco but out of principal I though stuff em :D

I got a comedy quote for my car insurance renewal. I changed from a 2.5 litre V6 petrol to a 2.0 litre turbo diesel 115 in August and it didn't cost any money to change over. Insurance was due for renewal 1st March and quote went up by nearly £200.
Phoned around a few companies and got back in touch with my insurer to see if they would price match, they gave me 2 months 'free' and beat the best other quote by 4p.

Imagine your a driver instructor then so depending on area I would imagine you pay between £250-£350?

I work in car insurance and we have been busier than ever due to everyones premiums going up, most premiums have had the rise of about 30%.

The problem is car insurance barely makes any money and to a lot of companies runs at a loss. Which means they have to invest money in other areas. Some companies are pulling out of the private car sector and unfortunately the less companies there are to quote the less competitive it gets which means prices will rise and rise again.

The online comparison quotes do offer good prices but a lot of them are nonsense quotes and insurers wont always take them as a price to beat, usually because of people will put the odd detail in wrong and then companies wont pay out claims. Also you got now credit checks with most quotes now as well to check where your living to stop the fraud in insurance.

I was an absolute cretin with my household insurance - buildings and contents. I stupidly let it run and run - the Nationwide were stinging me for over £50 a month.

I did a compare the meerkats/go compare and found Churchill (it just so happens that they sponsored the finest football team on God's earth.....) for £25 a month!

NEVER stay with the same insurance company.

I switch my car insurance between Elephant, the AA and Direct Line.

FYI - Insurance companies of any description will use the second year (if you stay) to recoup the money the 'lost' in the deals they offered you in your first year.

NEVER stay with the same insurance company.

Not true in my case!

Spent a few days trying to find something to beat my renewal of 550. Finally I got one for 440 but just to see I rang up my current insurers and the guy spent a few minutes typing in stuff and came back with 414! My first year with them they were also the cheapest at 370 so not too bad really.

Nowhere else came close! Job done and no need to mess about transferring no claims about :D

I decided to take out Admiral's multicar policy at the start of the year. I managed to get a quote for me and my wife fully comp on a mondeo and a mini cooper (both fully comp on both cars) me with 6yrs NCB and my wife 0 NCB, me protected NCB, all in for about £800. :)

Considering Stacie on her own with her mini cooper was 700 roughly and I was paying Tesco £450 for me on my mondeo.... I was rather pleased.!!!!!!!

I think if your a new customer you will always get a good deal but anything loyalty wise just isn't worth it as there is always someone cheaper on your renewal.

If you are with a broker then usually they can find someone else to match quotes. With just insurers they will load premiums and then deduct if you get better.

As with any business though they are there to make money and they are not going to go lower if they dont want to and dont see the business sense in going that low.

When I first started in insurance its so suprising how much quotes vary on location, age and other daft things
