Has anyone cancelled a flight they were booked on to knowing there was no refund ??

I'm booked on to a flight to Gerona in May I now can't go on, however, there is no refund, ok, I'm cool with that, I knew that when I signed up but my issue with cancelling is this, I get no refund, fair enough, but if I cancel, they re sell the seats and are quids in.

Would you inform then or just not turn up ?

err....I'm not sure, had it for multiple trips last year so not sure if it's still valid though surely they need a proper reason to pay out on cancelled trips like health not our excuse, decided to change our plans, can we get our money back please.

Is there an option to name change? EasyJet charge about £40 for a name change. If you can sell the flight cheaper than someone else would pay EZY to book, inc the name change you might recoup some of your loss.

I get your point. I'd be loathe to give them the chance to sell the seat twice when you get nothing back. I would certainly not check in online and not turn up, that messes everyone, but I would be tempted to leave the ticket as it is so that they can not gain from it. That or cancel the morning of the flight.

Is that worth chasing ?? Not sure what that would be on a £160 flight.

Only you can make that decision. Who is the airline and what is the journey? A quick google should get you the info. You might be surprised as to what you’ll get but it will be less that £100

Chances are they've already sold it. They generally over sell seats anyways, so if it's showing full now then i doubt cancelling one seat would make them open it up again.

That said, i'd be inclined to leave it also just out of principle.

It is not worth trying to claim the tax back. The airlines cleverly charge the same amount in admin costs as the amount of the tax refund.

Whilst it may be a little different in Scotland as school holidays are earlier we went to Girona last year and the flight was only half full.

Regrettably Insurance is unlikely to cover. Incidentally Girona is a great city

Do the low cost operators oversell as well? I'm surprised. I get that certain business type flights do as not everyone turns up but I would have thought the model for low cost airlines was different. Hey ho.

Not sure they do to the same level, and maybe not on all flights. But a director at my old play was over to Holland frequently, sometimes a couple of times a week and their account had it stipulated that they were guaranteed a seat on the plane and he said on a few occasions he'd kept quiet as people missing out kicked off.

To compound things, did a check on the same flight prices today, £30 per flight, per person cheaper than when we booked them 2 months ago....raging.

Same thing happened to me last year with Jet 2. I asked them to change the date of my return flight from Tenerife, to an earlier date, to get back for a friends funeral.
They said they couldn't change just one part of a booking.

I didn't cancel :ears: , but luckily i got a cheap flight back with Ryanair.

I always believed the earlier you book flights the cheaper they are.
I had to cancel my flight to Orlando last year .
By doing so they are duty bound to refund any taxes to you .
you don’t need to claim it.
If you just don’t turn up you get nothing.
They have a reserve list so if you don’t check in on time they will sell your seat anyway.
So tell them you can’t make the flight and get your taxes back.
You maybe surprised how much is tax on a flight I got £169 back.
One thing I don’t like is letting the tax man keep my cash when not nessesary.
