Just after some reccomendations for a decent SW. Seeing loads on Ebay but havent a clue which are good and which arent. Hopefully a beginner friendly one

I would like to spend about £30 i think

A lot will depend on the type of course you play. If you play on a parkland type course you will probably want something with mid to high bounce but if you play on a links or heathland course with hard firm fairways you'll be better off with a lower bounce wedge.

Best bet is to pop into your local golf shop and have a look at a few to get an idea of what suits your eye. A high bounce wedge will have something like 10-12 degrees of bounce, a lower one perhaps 6 degrees. It will be stamped somewhere on the club, Vokeys have the loft and bounce together so may say something like 58/08 meaning 58 degrees of loft and 8 degrees of bounce.

Good luck

What loft is your PW and do you carry a gap wedge?

One of these will do nicely (model):

Thank me later.

Apparently my PW is 46 degrees. Had to google it. I was hoping to keep it cleveland, but if that Mizuno is as good as you say then i may be tempted.

Not sure what sort of course it is to be honest sorry. The back 9 is exposed to the wind. But the front is quite well protected.

Cleveland 588 is a fantastic wedge the forged ones a bit over budget, but you'll probaly be able to track down a cg15 in around your target price.

Go to golf direct and get the tad moore blaster wedge. Its £40 but it's transformed my bunker play and it's easy to use
around the greens too. Always a bonus.

It's a very personal club, especially if you are going to use it a lot around the green as well as from sand.

Lots of factors. Loft and bounce of course are important, safest is probably 54 or 56 loft and about 10-12 degrees bounce which would be a good all rounder, but how it looks and feels are important too, Some are more rounded than others, some have straighter leading edges, some have a bit of off-set, some are heavier. No right answer I'm afraid, it'll be whatever works for you.

All the main brands make excellent wedges and Cleveland are highly regarded, if you want to match with your irons. However there are also good choices from smaller companies like MD.

When you do find one you like, have a short game/bunker lesson with your pro with it then wear it out on the practice ground! ;)
