Just wondering if there is anyone close by with an Xbox ONE. I have made a serious big cock up with mine. I purchased it out in America when I was out there for Xmas. When I got home I was tired and jet-lagged and then proceeded to make a huge mistake.

I have a fancy travel adaptor that can be use used anywhere in the world and convert any country into another. So I plugged my American cable into it and pushed it into the wall, forgetting to change the switch on the adaptor to transform it from our 230V supply down to an American 110V Supply. I switch it on and go to grab a drink, when I get back into the room, it is full of smoke that is coming from the extremely hot power supply. I shut it off an leave for a day to cool down. I have now tried plugging it back in with the adaptor set to 110V, the LED on the power supply comes on but the Xbox doesn't. Fingers crossed it is only the surge protection fuse gone in the power supply, but with it being a sealed unit there is no way of me finding out.

So I live in Coningsby near Woodhall Spa. Anyone not too far away that I could come round and try plugging my Xbox and see if it works, or if it is just the power supply gone.

Do Xbox still have the separate power supply?
Smoke ain't good mate, sounds like you've fried the windings on the transformer rather than just blown a fuse. Hopefully the Xbox will have survived as I'd hope Microsoft will have a safety circuit built in for this very reason.
Personally I'd be taking it apart and doing some tests but to be honest I reckon you need a new power supply.

I know the power supply is fried. It is still a separate power supply, not internal to the Xbox. You can't take it apart though as it is a sealed unit. I will be back out in the US in a few weeks to see my fiancee so can take it back to the shop so really do not want to void any warranty by opening it up. What it does is have a power surge protection fuse in the transformer, so that should have ruptured before the Xbox fried itself. If I could check it out and find it is just the power supply I would just buy a new one and then change this one when I go back to the US.

Can you not take your Xbox to a local game shop and ask them to hook it up?
I'm sure they'd be more than happy to.

Contacted my local and they said not on a saturday because it is too busy. It would require them to take the big stand apart and then fit mine into it. Can go Monday though and give it a go.

I am just impatient as I am now having to play on my old school console.......................................PS3

Having just compared the Xbox SLIM PSU and XBOX one PSU they appear to be very similar. The plug looks identical (I haven't had a go at seeing if it physically fits) and they both should output 12 and 5 volts. I think the Xbox one PSU is slightly higher rated but on the face of it they look more or less compatible.

Worth looking a bit more into this because Xbox SLIM PSU would be easier (and cheaper) to get hold off. Might be OK to just test with until you get the official X1 PSU.

you are correct they look very very similar. So I went and got one off someone for a tenner on Ebay last night. When I go it back it did not fit because the 2 connectors on the Xbox ONE lead are about 2mm further apart. Then to top it all off I had a blow out on the way home so need to get a new tyre now to go with the power supply. turning out to be a bit expensive....................lol

Can you butcher the end of the SLIM PSU connector to make it fit? Obviously take care not to damage the actual barrels just the moulding. I think you want to leave the original X1 PSU intact because you may return it?, but if you didn't care about this then I would be inclined to swap the leads over from one to the other. This will mean breaking into the PSU housing or cutting the cable off.

The power rating cannot be an issue because they sell the adapters to convert the connectors. Which does beg the question why they bothered making a new PSU.

^^^^

Good shout, yes I'd be cutting the cables and swapping plugs on the power supplies.
I reckon you'll be lucky to get a replacement PSU in the USA given how you blew it up. Play dumb and let your fiancee make the swap for you if you go down that road ;)

Reading the bottom of the PSu the power rating should not be a problem. I am not going to break into it as I want to swap it for a new one. Plus I need one for when I emigrate in the summer out there, but still want one for back here in the meantime and if the Xbox has blown up also then I will need everything in one piece to exchange it.

I might have a go at pulling the one I got last night apart and getting it to fit as that seems like a good idea
