Calling all single figure handicappers

I always start the new season with the best of intentions to practise more but that never lasts long. To be honest I can only spend a maximum of 10 minutes on the range before boredom sets in.

How people can spend hours and hours on the practise ground is beyond me.

UP1.

to get down to 9 i practiced a lot, got there & down to 8 momenterialy /stopped the practice & back up to 9.2 & rising, so practice started again today.. i work near the club so itl be 45 min putting drills 2-3 times a week at lunch time.. 2 nites then, 1 of short game, wedge to 8 next night the rest of the clubs, still fear ill be 10 before 8, practice has to be meaningful tho not just hitting balls , thats a waste of time

Play, play, play and keep playing some more.

Any practice I do is 90%+ out on the course - throw a few balls down for some pitches or chips etc.

Beating balls off the same bit of turf is counter productive in my view. You get one chance only out on the course from a different lie on every shot, much more value in practicing that way too, IMO.

Went to practice today. Lasted all of ten minutes and went and played 9. Hats off to guys that really but the effort in but i would sooner spend an hour playin 9 than an hour on practice ground.

It amazes me how many of the single figure guys never seem to put that that much effort into practicing on here. They must either live on the course and play most days or be graced with stacks of natural talent. In either case it makes the rest of us pretty fed up! :D :D

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. :) Each to their own and all that.

I practice about 8 hours a month - that's 2 friendly rounds out on the course! The other 2 rounds in the month are comps.

For me ,you can't replicate the type of shots you need out on the course, by practicing on the range. And the time I have available for golf is not going to be wasted
by just bashing rocks.

Oops, just realised, I shouldn't be commenting on this thread, I'm nowhere near single figures

Finished now. :)

Practice ground for bedding in swing changes (was down there last night hitting 6i in the dark). Unless I groove it before going on the course I have no confidence with it, and will rapidly revert back to my usual rubbish.

I don't really practice my short game. It is pretty decent, but mainly because when I play I miss every green, so use it alot.

Don't really practice putting much either. In my view, either you can putt, or you can't.

+1 totally agree

In recent years I have just played once a week.

But I keep thinking maybe I ought to start practicing.

I play two or three times a week throughout the year, and only really hit the range if I am really struggling with something in particular or the weather is so bad I can't get out - generally only if there's snow on the course.

I know I should practice more, but it bores me to death.

Mt shift patterns change every week but if i'm off on Tues and Thurs i'll join my mates for a game. Otherwise throughout the summer i'll play in weekend comps if im not working. I dont usually play friendlies on a weekend cos i get too frustrated if it takes more than 3 hours.

Throught the week in the summer (not winter) if i'm off duty and the missus is working or shopping i'll go and have 2/3 hours round the chipping green and maybe a few holes aswell. Sometimes i'll bash a few balls on the grass range at the club if i feel i've got into a bad habit.

So mostly its short game praccy til i'm bored and a couple of rounds a week.

ps. I very very rarely do any putting practise as that really is the one part of playing golf that bores me rigid
