Callaway GBB Driver

its not the spending of £430 that bothers me. its the spending of £430 because they think the driver is a revolution. how fast a ball comes off the club face is restricted by rules and regulations. all manufacturers push to the limit and have done for a while.

i absolutely love the epic and would definitely buy one if i had the spare cash. however, my reason for buying one would be because it looks great and feels great. nothing to do with how it performs against my current driver. its performs almost identical

With the same thought process - why pay £150 / £200 for a round of golf? It's all hitting balls off of grass. Nothing different about the holes in the ground...? Won't a £10 round at the local muni do?

I know you're being sarcastic, but in all fairness I actually do subscribe to this theory. I basically never pay more than £25 for a round of golf if I can help it. But then I am poor. :D

Not sarcastic as such, just pointing out that people pay extortionate amounts for a single round of golf (let alone membership costs some people pay!) and it's ok... but a new driver is seen as a waste of money. The value someone finds in a new driver is the same as the value someone finds in playing at an expensive course.

Nothing wrong with keeping greenfee costs down. Haste Hill isn't too bad a track either, I've played there a few times years ago!

But lets be honest, you are too tight to buy a GPS/Range finder that is a fraction of that and would help your game, so why would anyone expect you to but a modern driver??:rofl::rofl:

LOL. Correct indeed. But hold on - I have a modern driver - a 9* Ping G10 ;)

...what do you means that's ancient - it's only 10 years old.

I did. He's not paying. He's being given it. That explains it.

but why would you want to pay £429 in any case...I guess some of we golfers are just a bit mad and some have more money than sense :)

It might say it costs £429

But if you trade in your old driver, then trade in the epic when you want something new, what do you actually pay? Maybe £200 total. Is it worth it then? still subjective yes

its still £429. you've just lost an asset to pay for it

no, its the gross cost. if someone gave you the money then the net cost to you is nothing but you just spent £429 of money.

ok.

If you buy it for £429 cash, your net worth does not drop £429. Not sure what point you are getting at.

If you choose to sell it in the future you can, as long as you have not totally destroyed or lost it.

Ha, fair enough, yeah I know what you mean. The value of anything is what people are prepared to pay at the end of the day.

And yeah, I'm enjoying it there in my first year as a club member. :)

Just checking in to see how much I'm allowed to spend on a new driver, I've been fitted for one which is £299 but now I'm concerned about negative equity, can this forum help?

Can you please provide a spreadsheet with incoming and outgoing cash, what you've spent in the last 2 years (have a further 2 ready) on Golf. List any debt and be prepared to have the purchase cancelled or your choice of driver questioned. ;)

Don't do it, £50 on ebay should do you, spend the other £250 down the pub, far better value.

I'm certanly interested in an Epic and can't wait until it's superseded by the Epic II or whatever. At that point I'd be happy to risk £199.00 on it. In the meantime I will struggle on with my TM *Firesole

*Yes, Firesole - it was not a typo. :mmm:

Make sure you include any forecasts of 300 yard+ drives, par 4 greens driven in one etc into any calculations, as this will significantly increase the re-sale value and will offset some of the depreciation.

Every drive will be flawless and I don't drink so the pub is less of a draw than the golf course. I do have mortgage debt but owe nothing else.

Can I get it or not. Kind of need a decision here guys
