Hi all,

Last night my local driving range held a Callaway products test event. I am sure this makes for great business as it was busy up there and the range had laid on a bbq and tea and coffee. There was 15 or so Callaway tour bags filled with all their latest toys from the Razr blade irons and wedges to the new Octane and Razr Hawk drivers.

I was not booked in but had called that day and was told I would be fitted in so I took the bay next to the 3 flight scoped enabled bays and began blasting the TM Burner Superfast driver that I am using at the moment. The shaft feels like jelly and launches high but damn it seems to go a long way, sadly I could feel and see that I was overpowering the shaft and everything was going to the left corner of the range unless I backed off a little.

Anyhow, I am up and I am assigned a friendly young fitter or pro who asked me what I wanted to play with and how my game was. He asked my handicap that I dually told him and quickly explained that it was my first handicap and I expect and intend it to be coming down (the usual ego dross that comes out of my mouth). He seemed shocked and said from what he had seen in the warm up it should be... Good salesman. I hit 10 drives with the Burner to get a bass line and came out with a 1.4 smash 4k spin and an average 102MPH head speed, 14* launch angle, I can’t remember if he told me ball speed. I remember thinking he would have his work cut out to get me closer to the more optimum stats.

I was keen to play with the Razr Hawk driver so he gave me a 10.5 stiff with the stock RIP shaft saying that it was the shaft on everyone’s lips on tour. It felt fat and dead like a G15 and I was thinking that it was too stiff for me. We hit 10 shots and the stats were very similar to my own driver and that clearly perplexed him so he dropped me to a 9.5 for 10 shots then an 8.5 for 10 shots and the spin started to come down very slowly. I asked him if an 8.5 was a little extreme for me and I sited consistency as an issue with such a low loft. He agreed and then started hunting through a bag full of shafts and pulled out a beautiful dark blue shaft and fitted it to 9.5 head. As soon as I hit it the driver felt totally different, no more dead feel and what a great ball flight, the guy was was quite pumped by the fact that my stats hand dramatically changed. I hit 10 shots with it and got a 1.5 smash 2k spin, 107mph head speed and an 11* launch angle. The shaft was a Diamana Kal`li 70x5ct and was £180 upcharge.

It was a real fun thing to do and has made me rather sad. Oh somewhere in the middle I tried the Octane but I was not feeling it, there was nothing else from the Cally range that I wanted to try and I felt that I had had my time as I was not going to pay that sort of money this week...

I did ask the wife what we were going to do to make it possable to own this wonderful thing but I think she was a little board with me talking golf tech or was more interested in the mortgage and upcoming nappy bills :D

I have the exact same problem. I just can't seem to get her to focus on the important stuff

Ka'ali is a good shaft, mid launch and spin and feels fairly smooth. If you have 107mph driver speed, the Made for TM Xcon in R would feel like a fishing rod. Wayyyy too soft.

Ye it looks like one too, so damn long and bendy.

Is the Karl`li the replacement for the Blue Board, they look very alike in stats? I am working on something to try and keep my costs down and still get something that suited me more.

Ka'ali is similar to the BB. Make sure you get a 'real' one rather than a Made for Titleist/TM BB.
