Callaway Apex Forged irons

update- went and tried them again and the Apex (non pro and chunkier of the two) is really growing on me.

Do I give up my ego as a blade player since starting as a boy and choose these that are so much fun to hit? At the range I ended up trying to hit the flag at about 160 I was finding the clubs that easy to hit. Normally I'm thinking about the swing or connection first and target 2nd.

I like slim shiny forged heads, these are forged but not slim but I do find them attractive.

They're not the stunning girls at the dance, nor the fuglies, more like the pretty one you could take home to the folks thats a long term keeper.

/I'll probably end up with the slim harlot that'll break my heart....again

Similar to my recent experience....

I have always, and will always, think that a blade iron just looks "right" behind the ball as it is what I grew up playing. I've recently gone from Cobra "blades" (not really blades in old money but as close as you get these days) to cavity back irons and it's made a big difference. I don't hit better shots but my bad strikes have much better results so I'm consistently hitting more greens.

The last couple of years I've kept getting blades, going back to cavity backs them getting blades again but I'm very happy with the clubs I have now.

That's not to say I'll be hankering over some blades in the coming months right enough!!!

lol, I notice you don't say what cavity backs you 'game' now

I suppose I've always got my 25 yr old Titleist slivers of metal blades in the garage I can fawn over in the evenings while polishing any silver I might win with the chunky girl:p

Meant to say! Cobra AMP Forged irons, the dogs danglies :)

Junior off here has the Apex non pro version and they look really nice, I'd happily play them. Still struggle with things like G25s etc.

Go for the clubs that you feel confident and comfortable with - those feelings are worth more than any numbers on a screen

It seems like you feel exactly that with the club's so go for it

they are not unlike The Apex Pro minus the Orange bit of course

trouble is that niggle in the back of my head, plus they cost £700- could be an expensive 'trial'

I have to say that rather than blow or as I prefer to say "invest" £700 in the Apex's , why not try a set of the X Forged that I'm using. Yours for under £300 with that superb Project X pxi shaft? I've come from Vega blades to Miura to these and they are pretty special. Or an even more left field choice the Amp Forged. I've just got some to keep in Devon ( lucky git I do know!) and they absolutely rip through the ball.

It depends what you want and how you see your game going in the net few years. If you think the blades are still the way forward then keep the money in your pocket but personally I'd be looking for that modicum more assistance and going for them. Once you've played with them a few times I don't think you'll really care when you are hitting them like a dream

they were on my radar- not far off apex pro looks- so why are you selling?

I'm not selling them, I love them. The Cobras are to keep in Devon at the holiday cottage we have just bought. I have joined Saunton Sands and need a set of spanners down there because space in my stupid car is at a premium. I am a very very lucky boy and believe me I know it and I dont take my good fortune for granted.

ahh sorry, thought your post meant yours (to buy) under £300.

I'll check them out on evilbay but no experience of project x pxi shaft

The PXi shaft has slightly different flight characteristics to the KBS, for me there isnt much difference. My feeling was that the KBS was more even in its response through the shaft and the PXi was softer in the tip.

BTW, altho I am an 11hcp now, I was 5 or 6 for the best part of 10 years before stopping in 2008 for 5 years. I can still hit it, just cant play!
