Bought the heads a month or so ago, £299 for 4-PW which is pretty good value in any book.
Initially I decided to fit then with PX IO 115g shafts but they just weren’t right for them. Also had issues with fitting them as the hosel bore is 0.370 and the shafts 0.355 and with brass shims they were a bit too snug and hard to seat properly. Found it hard to get the ball in the air with the shaft not really co-operating.
I then got a set of Nippon NS Pro 950GH stiff shafts in 0.370, some nice orange ferrules and some neon orange Pure Pro grips just for a wee bit of a change from standard black and they do look the part if I don’t say so myself.
Now these heads are a wee bit (and I mean marginally) chunkier then my i525s on the top line but its not offensive. There is a bit of offset on the 4-6 irons thats noticeable but again its not offensive.
But on the course, I am really impressed. First shot of the day was a 9 iron in to our 145 yard par 3, dropped the ball to a foot for a birdie to start. Straight away got a positive feel from them.
They feel every bit as good as the Pings and in the bag they do look good as well. There is a very satisfying click sound when you hit them and they were going pretty much straight on line for me all day.
I shafted the 4 iron up with a UST Recoil F3 75 shaft to make a sort of driving iron Frankenstein thing and its a beast, so easy to hit and get the ball airborne.
For the cost, I would definitely recommend the Caley 01s to anyone thats looking for forgiving distance irons. I believe they come with KBS shafts if you buy them as complete irons at around £500, but for £299 you get the 7 heads (0.370 hosel remember) and I think the shafts I got were £90 for the set (GC4C) and the grips and ferrules about £70. So about £460 and I’m happy with that.
They’ll be staying in the bag for a while, they might just oust the i525s permanently.
Side note, the Pure Grips Pro model that I have on them feel bloody brilliant, soft and grippy compound, very impressive and the neon orange stands out.
