Others on here must have upgraded their irons since the c of c grooves became mandatory on new clubs.

Ignoring wedges for the post (still got old grooves), can any one else get their ball to stop on the green? I'm talking full on 8i for instance. Even off the fairway, I am getting about 20 foot of run out. My old Titleists would have checked up pretty instantly, may be ripped back a bit.

Yesterday I hit a 9i into a slight up slope on the green, pitched at a forward flag, and still ran up to the back of the green. Did it again 2nd time round too.

I'm finding the Bridgestone 330RX particularly unresponsive, but ProV1 and TM Penta are not much different.

I know I still se the Pro's on telly rip them back, but to me, this is now some sort of black magic.

Any one else finding this?

On the rare occasion I actually hit a green with an 8 or 9 iron the ball normally stops for me. I'm using Srixon Zstar X at the moment.

I don't think I've changed anything in my swing since I changed my bats.

You can still get them to stop quick off a good lie. Soumds like you're not getting a good enough downward strike on the ball.

Begs the queston - is an old set of irons with worn square grooves better than a brand new set with v-grooves?

I'm still getting backspin. My old 58's had conforming grooves and I assume the new RXT's do too. Maybe your quality of strike has dropped a bit..? I'm getting decent stop with all irons, even with the NXT TOur ball or similar.

Even on our hard(ish) links greens if I hit it correctly I get the one hop and stop gig, never really had the ball zipping back thankfully.

I really dont see the whole RX thing at all - find them pretty poor - though I can stop a ball on the green with a hop and jump - infact I changed to a 330s to try and get a bit less spin on hitting the green and love them.
I do however, hit my short Irons clean and pretty hard - think thats the secret.

Can get a bit of back spin off anything up to an 8i - beyond that its hop and stop when hit well - thats using 2009 AP2's with the grooves cleaned before every shot. I find that the difference (other than bigger dispersion) between hitting smooth and hitting hard is very little in distance but lots regarding spin. Thus my ball goes higher and spins more when hit hard - hit smooth it goes about the same distance and rolls out - I try to hit the ball with the same tempo as it lets me get a (sort-of) consistancy.

Now I have shared that can someone share the secret of hitting woods :-( - I seem to be programmed to hit a downward strike and the woods really hat it :-/

Are your greens not damp - I know I will be trying to fly all the way to pins tomorrow.

And what is c of c ??

???conformity??

MY greens?

C of C means condition of competion (I think) the new v grooves compared to the old u grooves.

No I mean Murphs greens - after all the rain is he still finding that the ball is rolling to the back?

Played Portadown yesterday (and it was WET) played with a Taylormade XD somthing or other which I found - it is deffo not a high end ball and I never managed to get more than a foot of roll. Different matter if we are talking bone dry or links greens.

Personally I havent a problem of stopping the ball on the green from a 4iron upwards but I believe this is because I have a very high launch which means the ball im hitting is near enough coming down vertically. I think this has to be taken into account as well when we compare how quickly we can stop a ball.

I just got a set of MP62 black Nickel which i think have the new grooves. I've noticed i've spun the ball back more with these than the MP32 i have been using with the old grooves. playing a few holes the other night saw one pw shot land 10 feet past the flag and spin back past the flag again. Never been able to do that before. Even a few 8 iron shots a Dornoch yesterday stopped dead.

been using a Pro V1 x as its been windy :D

I can get the ball to stop as with my new clubs i get a high ball flight.
If the ball has a lower ball flight it will run out.
All this Bull about backspin is just nonesense.
I get spin[sometimes] and its usually a couple of feet,so all these players that think they get spin[like a pro] all the time, are in cookoo land, imo.
I cant remember playing with someone who shot over the flag, and drew it back stone dead.

With no grass/muck/water between ball and club the grooves should make no difference.

It's only when there's something to prevent a clean contact and the new grooves only channel away half as much stuff and you lose friction.

Apart from that I can't help as I'm still on the old ones. :)

I don't have any issues with stopping it on the rare occasion I find the green with a mid iron. With all the wet weather it should be even easier tomorrow and Sunday to get it to stop.

That'll be the moss Homer, I could stop a Top Flite on that :D

With the wet greens we now have, problem over, but next summer, the zb's come back out.

Shot level par for 17 today, and then messed up on 18 as usual. Damn.
