By Election Soon?

There were 2 election petitions lodged after the 2010 general election. The idea of the petitioner is to have the result declared null and void and have the election re-run, as was the case in 2010 where the election of Phil Woolas in Oldham was overtunred and the election re-run after he was found guilty of making false statements about his main opponent.

So they could make the vote null and void and the election re run ?

And would it make a difference or be another waste of public money ?

I was simply helping out by posting some facts that you were unaware of (as was I until I did a bit of Googling prompted by your question).

You're free to hold your own opinion on whether you think it would make a difference or be a waste of public money just as the people of Orkney & Shetland are free to mount their legal challenge if that is their wish under the Representation of the People Act 1983.

Also it sounds like if they have to raise £60k it's not public money is it.
I appreciate that this funds the legal costs if they lose and if they win then the election will need to be rerun at public expense. That's democracy.

I'm more concerned with the fact that it seems that only people with money are able to afford to take legal action. , but that's another story .

As much as I think Carmichael is an idiot of epic proportions ( I hold the same of opinion on most MPs/MSPs) and I'm very much enjoying seeing him in this uncomfortable position, I actually think he's a pretty decent constituency MP, and some of his work for his constituency deserves credit.

Should he stand down and allow another ByElection? Probably not.It would only result in him losing some kneejerk reactionary well funded SNP attack, and I think democracy in Scotland deserves to be not just the yellow hue of the SNP.

This reminds me of his debate with Sturgeon on STV last year when he pleaded for intervention from the host. Both made be LOL.

I would imagine that the SNP candidate is raging.
He only lost by 800+ votes.

I for one am quite happy to see public money spent to right a wrong.
Bear in mind the inquiry into the affair [which Carmichael knew was wrong] cost the public an estimated £1.4m.
Perhaps the exchequer should chase him for this amount.
