Like a peerless Shola Ameobi, some of my grips are looking a little worn and tired as the season is coming to an end. Doing what many Toon gaffers never succeeding in doing, I am going to replace the offending articles with newer and better candidates.

So, there are a few options I like the look of, specifically Iomic, Lamkin etc., although some of these are a little pricey. Iomic grips are at least a tenner a piece!

Being the Ping fan-boy I am, I thought I’d also check out their range, firstly using their fancy colour chart first to find the required size. It has come as no great surprise to see that I fall in to the Aqua category (arguably red but I’m much to butch to admit it – or I just have), being an undersized grip.

Now I currently play White code grips on my G20s and don’t think I suffer any adverse effects, but if I’m going to replace them, should I go for the Aqua size (obviously a static fitting chart is gospel and must never be disputed) as the chart indicates? Oooh, what to do with my dainty little girl hands!

Where do you guys fall in terms of the chart? And how many play an equivalent sized grip?

I assume (we all know what that does) length of hand is base of palm to tip of middle finger I'm on the white/gold border! Which I find weird as I've not yet met anybody with bigger paws than mine!

I used the golf pride grip guide, which must be reasonably accurate as when I hand my hands measured at a recent wedge fitting, the fitter matched my own findings, which was I needed and now use mid size grips.

The new midsize grips made a huge difference.

Aye measure you hand from the first crease base of your hand/wrist, to the tip of your longest finger, then measure your longest finger.

Anything north of 8 inches for hand length and longer than 3inches for finger length is looking at a few wraps of tape or midsize grip.

According to the Lamkin guide I'm standard (.58) plus 3 additional wraps, so 4 wraps total.

On a 0.60 grip it would equate to 5 wraps total under a standard grip.

No midsize for me.

Edit: On the above chart I'm white, border line gold.

In that case put me down for gold! (Now what else can I measure to exaggerate my manhood?)

As an aside why do Ping make such good clubs but fit as standard such awful grips. Harsh with no feel and not great when damp.

I have just bought Anser 3w & 20* hybrid and am absolutely delighted but the grips, ugh!

I'm on the upper side of white with Ping. Lamkin makes it standard + 3 wraps.

You didn't mention what size glove you wear. I wear a large glove, which does surprise me with a standard grip; what size glove do you have to qualify for midsize or oversize grips?

I wear size small glove. Ordered a Ping Aqua grip for the driver so will trial it on there.
