Thanks for that. Is it fairly simple to set up and is it possible to manually set the mesh to provide the best broadband to the PS4s for example as the kids playing online is what would require the best signal or would it do that automatically anyway? The phones and laptops are only used for internet browsing, rather than streaming etc, other than when the kids go on TikTok or YouTube. I'm an analogue kind of guy living in a digital world so the simpler the better for me.

You can (on mine anyways) set priority signal

However the mesh would be superior anyways

Can you explain that to me in simple terms so that even an idiot can understand it please. We've recently got Sky broadband (FTTC as FTTP not yet available in our street) and Sky Q. There are three PS4s in the house plus four mobile phones and four laptops all connected. What's a Deco mesh and what does it do? And how does Sky Q sit on its own mesh (<---- to be honest I don't even understand what a mesh is).

Just ask one of the kids to sort it out... if they want any Christmas presents... Job done

I came across an article on mesh networking today https://gizmodo.com/mesh-network-what-is-how-to-guide-setup-help-wifi-route-1849821653

I have been in the house a few weeks now internet is alright but getting some times it can be quite slow. I want to get internet run into the walls all over the house. Who would I call to get this done a electrician or would this be a specialist that does this ?

I've bought a "new" laptop off the bay. It's well smart. It's like lightening. £180. Chuffed. Listing said it was like new and it is. Piggin' bargin. what with 250meg off Virgin, even when they cut the speeds it's still pretty good now.

You want a guy/gal who can run cabling. Whether it is ethernet or mains electricity is immaterial.

I just ran a cable up the side of the stairwell to an ethernet switch upstairs.

Again, its not just speed. Can the ISP provided wifi kit cope with 30+ devices? If it cant, are you able to add a 3rd party mesh on top of it?

I am running Sky, which is fine, but their kit cant cope with the number of devices we have, so i run a Deco mesh system, then the SkyQ tv sits on its own wifi mesh.

quoting Grease, but tell me more tell me more.
we’ve really started to have some issues and Sky told us on the phone we have too many devices connected which frankly is mental as not everything is being used at once.
ease of setup? rough costs? thought about changing provider, but probably run into the same issue…

EDIT: Found this: TP-Link Deco X55 AX3000 Whole Home AI-Driven Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System, Three Gigabit Ports, Coverage up to 6,500 ft2, Connect up to 150 devices, HomeShield Security, Pack of 3, Amazon Exclusive : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Looks simple enough to set up. Just need to know what connection Sky uses

Deco is not quite plug and play for SkyQ, its a bit tricky. BUT it works well, there are easier options, if i remember correctly, the BT mesh works very well with SKYQ, my best advice is to get on the sky forums and have a quick look, Deco may be better now, but i had to separate into two wifi networks, one for SkyQ and one for everything else, which in fact works very well, but there are some plug and play options out there!

Please slide into my DMs so we can look to get this working. Sky have been next to useless in any support! Happy to have 2 WiFi networks, as long as everything works pretty seamlessly…..

I honestly cant remember what i did, it cant be that complex as i did it! But basically set up the new ssid on top of the old one, mase sure they are on non-conflicting channels. Then with all devices except skyQ boxes, i made them forget the SKY123ZYX and forced the new network as the default.

Honestly, the sky forum is way better than my sketchy recollection!

No, mine is set in WiFi Router mode. I think the access point mode is where sky and TPLink dont play very well (or at least that was the case 18 months ago)

all set up. Moved most devices across to the Deco and everything was pretty seamless…and speeds definitely seem improved. let’s see how it goes ??
