You are on the tee, Driver in hand ready to rip it.....

Do you hold your breath?

or

Do you breathe in during the back swing and out during the downswing?

Deep and controlled breathing prior to my stroke, hold my breath throughout my stroke. Massive sigh when it careers off into the trees.

Probably hold me breath (never paid attenion to it) but gasp when it hooks into the long stuff, and gasp even louder if it's straight:)

I breathe in on the takeaway ... deep breath (and then assumingly breathing out on the downswing, but I am too busy with other things to actually notice). I started doing that after watching a series of vids by Jaine Storey. The idea that you always combine powerful motions with breathing out in martial arts made perfect sense to me (I used to do karate when I was younger). Concentrating on my breathing before the swing really helps me to calm my mind as well. I really try to trust my body to know what it is doing and to not metnally interfere on the actual swing. And it seems to help.

I hate you for this thread. I have never thought about it before, now I will, and it will put me off LOL

I have no idea. I don't intentionally hold my breath, so I guess I must continue to breathe, no idea whether in or out, or indeed shaking it all about.

Does a release of air from any other place matter?

I'd say held but something I began doing last year that really improved my driving was keeping my mouth open through the swing. As in not wide open! I'm not catching flies. If you HIT at the ball your jaw naturally clenches. If you keep your jaw disengaged then it is practically impossible to hit the ball, instead you swing freely through it.

Tyr it, trust me!

I was always told to breathe out during the whole swing as it relaxes your muscles.
I take a deep breath before I begin my takeaway and then a steady exhale during the whole swing.

There is a lot wrong with my swing but I can safely say I have nailed the breathing element of it!:whoo:

i make sure i breathe out fully before i swing as i feel more relaxed. out of the blue, about a week ago i took a full breath before taking a swing and it just seemed to throw me off so this is now something i do consciously.

No idea either, breathing comes naturally, most of my golf swing doesn't so Iv got a million other things I'm thinking about other than my breathing.
