Breaking Bad v Game Of Thrones

Mental comment but as said on other posts good for 6 seasons.

Answer to OP

breaking bad all day long

Once you've watched all them hit up sons of anarchy then maybe game of thrones

Seriously? That was the biggest load of guff I've seen. Typical polished yank drivel. That kid that is the main character is a complete knob. I think in the very first scene he lights a fag while riding a motorbike. It can't be done like that. And when they are 'supposed' to be in Northern Ireland, it's ill researched nonsense.

It's matter of opinions and as for being ill researched guff??? Not to sure on that one!! The guy that made it worked with a club for 3 years to get it right . Also I'd trust tv critics opinions more than I would yours! Your the first person who I have actually say that about the show.

How's corrie this week?

Dunno man, haven't lived in the UK for 16 years...

I don't think there is any need to belittle the content as only suitable for pubescent boys and middle aged blokes though:rolleyes:
.

Sorry if it wasn't absolutely crystal clear when I wrote "A lot of the nudity seems contrived and sensationalist," that I was actually referring to the level of nudity in Game of Thrones rather than belittling it to the extent where you feel the need to roll your eyes.

And Fader, I have read the books and don't feel like I have a "failing" relating to being able to understand a costume drama.

I still think there is an over reliance on naked flesh and it annoys me as I think it was probably a pre-determined marketing strategy.

I think it is alright but the directors compulsion to show decapitated horses and naked women every five minutes is becoming tiresome. A lot of the nudity seems contrived and sensationalist and seemingly appeals to pubescent boys and middle aged blokes who love it because it's the closest thing to porn that they are allowed access to.

I also find that statement very offensive. No idea about Game Of Thrones itself as it looks like something to appeal to fans of Dungeons and Dragons plus it's not subtitled, so I've never watched it.

But as a middle aged bloke I have plenty of access to and have watched lots of porn, I mean wasn't that what the internet and tablets were invented for?;)

If anything it is staying true to the author, he has always been a bit controversial (read pervert)

I can describe an axe entering a human skull in great explicit detail and no one will blink twice at it. I provide a similar description, just as detailed, of a penis entering a vagina, and I get letters about it and people swearing off. To my mind this is kind of frustrating, it's madness. Ultimately, in the history of [the] world, penises entering vaginas have given a lot of people a lot of pleasure. Axes entering skulls, well, not so much.

- George RR Martin

The bit he is talking about is actually a rape scene from one of his books I believe.

isn't that the point of it though.....

/point to note, these are smileys and it's not actually me rolling my eyes :mmm:

By not watching the 2nd & 3rd seasons then none of what you've described will seem necessary, as the 1st season is just the building blocks for what is to come, and to say it's for pubescent boys as a substitute to porn is an insult to those that have watched beyond the little you have and seen the characters and plots develop. Perhaps the fact you can't see beyond the nudity is your own failing and is stopping you see the depth of the characters and the way they all link together. As for the accents they aren't meant to be perfect as its not set in old England with English accents, the 7 kingdoms is it's own world and the accents are meant to show the diversity and differences not sound like some Yorkshire farmer off to the Woolpack. Plus if you read the books you would see where it all comes together if you don't want to give it chance beyond season 1.

Think you mean Sean Bean, and without his death there wouldn't be anything to watch as its the catalyst for all that happens afterwards.

Breaking Bad is very good though and well thought out. Other good series not mentioned are Following or and Banshee.

yes, my bad, always getting these two mixed up. Sean was great in Taken as well

Too much nudity???

Wire and sopranos are the 2 greatest shows ever made. The sopranos episode with Chris and Paulie freezing in the forest is tv genius.

Spot on - I watched the Wire with subtitles on to start with  ironically as the best actors are actually English! Sopranos is just legendary stuff.

I downloaded the whole of "Rescue Me" off Sky on demand..... Its v very good IMO if someone is looking for a decent long series of black comedy over the winter.... Denis Leary is superb in it.

Not seen Breaking Bad but find it hard to see how it can be better than of Game Of Thrones, GOT is the best series to be made in a long time everything about it is top notch. See Sons Of Anarchy mentioned as well which I also think is very good indeed and the Director as mentioned did spend a few years with a real life motorcycle club so it is well researched albeit a bit far fetched in some of it's happenings at times but still very entertaining. The Sopranos was outstanding for the first 3 series but I thought it then lost its way a ran out of steam for a while until the final series started which was superb.

If I want porn, I find porn. I don't need it seeping into the mainstream as it has with Game Of Thrones. It is OTT.

I think lots of people share this view.

This is worth a look as it pokes fun at the fact that it is all a bit daft and unnecessary..

It's in the books so should be in the TV series.

Sex is used as a power control device just as weapons are. They've already massively toned it down from the books. Remember that in the books many of the characters are just children. They've already sanitized it for the TV audience by making them all adult, at least in appearance.

Started to watch BB recently on Netflix, whizzed thru S1 and so far its been excellent. I can see why all the fuss has been made about this now.

Enjoyed Games of Thrones

The sex and violence is all in the books ( if anything there is more in the books )

To suggest again it's all for prepubescent boys etc is once again demeaning to the rest of the population that read or watch it - the sex/nudity is all part of the story

The books are better but only because things are being cut from the telly shows - looking forward to the next series

As for Breaking bad - never actually seen it but planning too

Breaking bad was immense and got watched from start to finish pretty sharpish. Absolutely fantastic series with a bit of everything.

Game of thrones is on the list

Exactly, it has a classification of 18, hopefully most have already experienced puberty by this age.

If you're not mature enough to deal with the content or are too much of a prude, don't watch it. Simple. Alternatively watch it and then slag it off for having too much sex and violence.

Also it's not exactly like you're gonna be beating off to it is it? I think even prepubescent lads use real porn for that.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

I will rephrase my opinion........... Game of Thrones is rubbish. So are the books.

Hopefully that removes any confusion.

Crude term removed.
