Morning campers!
Haven't played in ages, bad weather n' all plus the dreaded temporary greens so I went out yesterday morning at 7am (we were minus a car so had to drop the missus off at work!) not expecting much.
I'd only very recently broke 100 and expected to be shooting just over a ton so imagine my surprise in having done 89!
I started poorly, not having hit any practice shots and my first drive I put left into the gorse. Having decided this is where I usually go wrong (and lets face it, at 7am I really did have the track to myself) I hit about 4 drives and a couple of long irons off the 1st tee as a practice and re-started my round (I don't construe this as a cheat  :D )
Anyway score card followed like this.
1) 469yd par 5, SI 12. 5
2) 184yd par 3, SI 8. 5
3) 196yd par 3, SI 2. 4
4) 75yd par 3, SI 18. 3
5) 453yd par 5, SI 14. 7
6) 204yd par 3, SI 6. 4
7) 322yd par 4, SI 10. 5
8) 480yd par 5, SI 16. 5
9) 376yd par 4, SI 4. 5
OUT 43.
10) 440yd par 4, SI 3. 5
11) 343yd par 4, SI 15. 6
12) 359yd par 4, SI 7. 5
13) 389yd par 4, SI 1. 6
14) 356yd par 4, SI 13. 5
15) 385yd par 4, SI 5. 6
16) 163yd par 3, SI 9. 3
17) 319yd par 4, SI 17. 5
18) 181yd par 3, SI 11. 5
IN 46.
TOTAL 89.

I was so, so pleased.
While I haven't been on the course as much I have been down to the beach to play. Saunton Sands has miles of the lovely yellow stuff so I have been taking my PW and a couple of balls everytime I take the dog a walk, so I have been really working on my swing. Bless him, he even fetches the balls back to me!
Mainly the sand is damp and firm, giving almost fairway like conditions so I think this has really helped my game.
I didn't drive that well on this round either, distancewise, but kept them fairly straight (maybe its the improved swing helping there too?) but it was definately my iron play that lowered the score- I've never hit so many GIR's!
Came off the course with a huge smile on my face, even though I was lucky to come away with a 5 on the 18th- my shot off the tee was a shocker.
Putting was better by my own so so standards, so maybe I took off a couple of strokes here and there too.
I know it was probably a blip, a round unlikely to be repeated for a while but It's good to know that practice (albeit unorthodox) does work.

Alchemy- I wish I played at Saunton!
I currently play at Ilfracombe- as a newbie to golf I don't feel I'd yet "fit in" at a swish club like Saunton, but have aspirations of a game there some time in the near future.
I do know Sauntons Secretary- her and her husband both drink in my local (The Black Horse, Braunton) and he's said if I ever want to join he'd second me (or whatever it is you do to gain access to these super clubs!)
twiregolf- I see you are at East Devon- I know it well, I used to holiday at Ladram Bay virtually every year!
Not too far for me now (I moved here from Yorkshire just over a year ago)- when I have a bit more consistency I'd love to meet up for a game- just don't expect me breaking 90 every time (or indeed, 100!!! :D )
