Breaking 80...............

You can do it for sure - but in my opinion it won't just happen. You have to be thinking birdie on most holes and playing smart when
there is danger lurking.

I have broken 80 3 times in the last two seasons, and there is a mental concept that has helped me immensely, which is focusing on
the target that I wish to hit and not thinking of any swing mechanics at all. It's OK to have a swing thought, preferably one about
rhythm, but nothing too technical and definitely only one at a time. So before every shot I ask "what is my target" and "what kind of shot will I play to get it there" - once I decide on these two things I'm all set. It has helped me tremendously. It's explained in more detail in "Fearless Golf" by Dr. Gio Valiante.

Best of luck!

Sounds to me like it isn't really your golf game that stops you breaking eighty. It is your golf brain that is the issue. Let the shots take care of themselves and focus on managing the round instead perhaps?

A strategy that might work for you is going out with the intention of bogeying every other hole and tracking your score against this goal. A bogey every other hole breaks 80 on lots of courses and it isn't hard to do.

Going out with an aim to shoot a particular score may just put extra pressure on you. Play each hole and each shot on its merits and in accordance with your ability. Don't take too many risks and play to avoid big numbers. The score will come.
