Break in

We just been informed that the club (D&SHGC, SE London) was broken into and most of the trophies stolen. They were seen in the act by our on-site steward but he was threatened with an axe, so rightly backed off.

I know this has happened before elsewhere (and a mate who lives down there has said there was a spate of this in Cornwall a couple of months ago). Perhaps, perhaps not, the same gang but forearmed is forewarned, especially in our area. Beware and take care.

Theres been a few down this way. We were told, and as a result have put all trophies away into safe storage for the time being.

Ours got taken just after COVID

Ours get taken home by the members on presentation night. Once, in the dim & distant past, the club had to take legal action to get one back.

Not sure whether we did it but there was talk about having cheap copies made and locking the real ones away.

My thought is if you just lock them away then you are better off selling them, it wouldn’t mean less to me lifting a trophy made of tin vs silver.

We had a few not returned so stopped allowing them to be taken home..

Two or three clubs were done in this area. We put ours out of sight whilst CCTV was installed in all areas of the club house.

We have also got back in to practice of locking the main gates in the evening. Done by security company on their last sweep of the place.

Thats the sad thing. Our gates are locked every night, and recently had rising bollards installed to stop them being forced open. But the gits just came over the boundary fence.
