gotta say i have fancied a set of md clubs for ages as every mag gives them such a good write up but have never got round to actually taking 1 out for a demo hit as i think they would be a step backwards from my present clubs in the bag even tho they mite be better suited for me

There are some top quality "Value" clubs out there - MD, Benross in particualr come to mind. Progen used to be great (metal) woods.
I've got a MD Norman DRew putter that is a truly delightful club; the Drew wedges are lovely lovely clubs as well.

One could say i'm a bit of a brand freak - i used to have Mizuno irons and wedges and callaway woods; when i swapped irons i went back to Hogans because of quality. BUT i seriously thought about getting some MD Superstrong forged, because you could pick them up for £200 new. The HOgans won out cos i got them new for £200 as well !

You can draw parallels with skiing where there are very similar arguments. Skis (liek golf clubs) are designed to make you ski well - the only problem comes when us human beings try to make them work in a way that prevents them doing what comes naturally.

Quality of swing is the real determinant here, as said above by several posters

Performance all day long for me although i do usually look at the mizuno kit 1st then all other major brands except TM(cos its overpriced shoite!) imo.

I'm also of the opinion you get what you pay for.

Me = golf snob :D :D :D

Grumps....Going the MD route definately wouldnt be taking a step backwards......Just check out the specs of shafts on there clubs..There up there with the best......A 9 Iron is still a 9 Iron regardless what company its made by....It still does the same job as the next.

The reason there so cheap is that MD dont sponsor anyone on tour i think.....Noone to sponsor = No wages to pay = equipment to sell at average joe prices......

This is why all the "Big brand names" charge crazy prices......Someone has to pay wages for the tour players...... :mad:

I won a Benross 20deg hybrid at Ascot.
I took it out last week on a practice round and probably used it half a dozen times.

It is very easy to hit, and hit straight.

It will get outings in comps depending on conditions. It is a bit longer than my 3 iron, and a bit shorter than my Titleist 19deg hybrid.

I didn't know if it would suit me because it has a reg shaft in it, but I hit it so well that I'm now wondering if the stiff shafts in the rest of my clubs are wrong for me. :D

I use cleveland ta7 irons and a cleveland hi-bore xl driver,benross 3 wood and putter and maxfli wedges, so dont think I'm a brand snob!(most of it passed down to me from my brother) Recently swapped my TM 5 wood for a bay hill 21 deg. hybrid. which came from a starter set I purchased, Just felt and performed far better, but would the TM 5 wood perform better in the right hands?..probably yes.If I played the game to the high standards as some of you guys do then I would imagine the brand snob would come out in me. :cool:
